Hardware development project engineer - embedded systems


Responsibilities

·      Microcontrollers, power electronics (MOSFETs driving inductive loads mostly). 12V systems, design for EMC. IoT projects Bluetooth and LTE-M/NB-IoT.

·      Working on multiple projects PCB and wiring harness, component selection, simulations, and sample builds.

·      Development of specifications with the customer, design validation.

·      Hardware architecture development (system and PCB level)

·      Documenting test procedures (design verification planning) prior to test.

·      Design verification reports and physical testing of sample hardware.

·      Development of test rigs

·      Hardware changes both before and after hardware production.

·      Design review presentations internally and with customer.


Qualifications

·      Degree or Higher National in electronic/electrical engineering or computer science or physics

·      Possible new graduate.

·      Several years demonstrable experience.

·      Demonstrable hobby projects using the above required skills.

Desirable Skills

·      Hardware design, schematic design, PCB layout

·      Hardware debugging on test rigs and development set-ups.

·      Mechanical design, Fusion 360 to develop test components or rig parts or enclosures for development equipment.


Personality Requirements

·      Able to work to deadlines and on multiple projects concurrently.

·      Understands project costs and the importance of working to project timing and customer needs.

·      Not afraid to point out potential problems with designs to more senior staff.

·      External interests/hobbies involving electronics, Raspberry Pi or Arduino projects.

·      Good communicator both spoken and written.

·      Tenacious when it comes to solving problems.

·      Enthusiastic engineer, prepared to take lead when required.

·      Confident but not overconfident.

·      Lives locally, northwest England

·      Not averse to taking risks but admits errors and learns from them.

·      Listens and absorbs details from more experienced engineers.

·      Comfortable working in small company.
