About This Position

IDB Lab is seeking a dynamic, purpose-driven, and passionate professional and trailblazer to join the Ecosystem Building and Acceleration Division, based in Brazil.

The Ecosystem Building and Acceleration Division at IDB Lab drives innovation and sector growth, with a focus on Ecosystem development in Latin America and the Caribbean. It addresses strategic areas such as green-tech, silver-tech, Gov-tech, worker-tech, Ed-Tech, gender, and diversity, ensuring impact reaches poor and vulnerable populations. The Division strengthens innovation ecosystems by leveraging ecosystem maturity, supporting Entrepreneurship Support Organizations (ESOs), and fostering connections among ecosystem actors, while building a pioneering portfolio of non-reimbursable operations.

What you’ll do

  • Identify and design innovative ecosystem projects in collaboration with the IDB country office, IDB Lab specialists, Sector Specialists and IDB Invest Officers. The specialist will identify and develop ecosystem projects that provide a continuum of solutions with financial instruments across the IDB Group. He/she will create a solid pipeline of ecosystem initiatives that are align with IDB Lab KPIs, IDB Lab development challenges and verticals and can bring significant impact and positive change to Brazil entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Support initiatives under the Amazonia Forever program focused on climate change, conservation, restoration, bioeconomy, and sustainable business models in the Amazon. Foster synergies between startups, corporates, and the public sector. Collaborate with the Amazon Coordination Unit and IDB Invest Amazonia Delivery Unit in developing innovative projects, strengthening IDB Lab’s project portfolio in the Amazon region, and facilitating key partnerships. Manage risks and assumptions related to the Climate Change and Biodiversity- Bioeconomy portfolio in Brazil.
  • Supervise the ecosystem project portfolio in Brazil, providing technical guidance to maximize impact and results to the local partners and ensuring reporting, including reporting from mobilization sources, is meet in time and quality and data in operational systems is kept up to date.
  • Being a connector agent to foster greater impact in the Brazilian entrepreneurial ecosystem: Identify key players and events in the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem in Brazil and connect them with IDB Lab value proposition, both in Brazil and regionwide. Foster strategic alliances and enhance IDB Lab’s visibility and positioning as innovation broker.
  • Engage in partnerships with entrepreneurial support organizations, universities, research institutions, industry leaders, and ecosystem actors. Share practical knowledge to position IDB Lab effectively. Foster connections and organize entrepreneurial events.
  • Develop project proposals to attract additional funding from traditional and non-traditional sources, specifically with focus on biodiversity, climate change, biodiversity and green related initiatives.
  • Contribute to internal and external reporting by preparing clear, standardized reports for stakeholders, coordinating with partners and field teams.
  • Maintain coordination with the Country Office to ensure alignment with IDB Group’s strategy in Brazil, proposing innovative projects to improve lives at scale

What you'll need

  • Education: You hold a master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Finance, Development, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, Business Administration, International Development or other relevant fields.
  • Experience: You have at least five (5) years of relevant professional experience in discovering, creating, and supporting innovative projects, entrepreneurs, and ecosystem development that solve Brazil’s and the region’s most pressing problems with impact at scale.
  • Visionary thinking: The ability to see the big picture and think long-term about the development and growth of ecosystems.
  • Entrepreneurial Spirit: A mindset geared towards innovation, risk-taking, and driving new initiatives.
  • Alliance Building: Proven ability to establish and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Digital skills: Advanced computer skills, including word processing, Excel, monitoring tools, databases (Airtable is a plus), and CRM tools (Salesforce is a plus).
  • Languages: You are proficient in oral and written English and Portuguese. Spanish is a plus.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Brazil or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries eligible to obtain a valid residency or legal permit to work in Brazil without the need for sponsorship by the IDB.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

  • National staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
