Job description

An SEO agency is looking to expand its content team by recruiting an experienced SEO content editor who is passionate about curating high-quality content optimised for search engines. This role combines a high level of English proofreading/editing with an SEO-focused approach.


You will be editing pages for clients in a wide range of industries — giving you days filled with variety and opportunities to continuously learn and grow.


You will focus on editing copy that is either entirely written by the writers in our team, or client copy that has been optimised for search engines by the writers in our team. You will also need to give the writers feedback on their work to help them improve and streamline future work.

Responsibilities

  • Work alongside our editors and SEO Content Manager to ensure quality control for each piece of content before it is submitted for client review and ensure that we deliver engaging long-form content & metadata optimised for SEO and User Experience (UX). These are mostly eCommerce category & product pages.
  • Research and gain a thorough understanding of each client’s needs and goals, as well as the topics covered in each page.
  • Proofread and edit long-form content & metadata submitted by writers in the team (grammar, punctuation, spelling, readability, structure, flow, copywriting best practices, SEO best practices, UX, etc.).
  • Fact check content submitted by writers (general fact-checking, as well as checking for correct use of industry-specific terminology, jargon, etc.).
  • Provide feedback on content to the writers to help them improve their writing and ensure the copy meets the client’s brand requirements and marketing goals.
  • Manage your workflow within Notion and communicate clearly with other members of the team to ensure any issues are resolved and content is completed on time.
  • Continuously improve your knowledge of SEO content and understanding of each client’s industry and target audience to ensure copy meets best practices & client expectations.
  • Work as part of a team to ensure all work meets our quality standards while taking ownership of your own role and responsibilities.
  • Work on multiple briefs and tasks simultaneously. You will have the freedom to decide which pieces you work on at a given time as long as they are completed by the due date.


Requirements

  • English (first language level)
  • Exceptional editing skills (You will be required to complete a skills assessment)
  • Reliable research & fact-checking skills
  • At least 2 years of professional proofreading/editing experience
  • A passion for the English language
  • A willingness & enthusiasm to learn about SEO
  • An understanding of eCommerce content
  • Ability to identify & adapt tones of voice for various industries and target audiences
  • Ability to think critically and apply logic & initiative
  • Strong attention to detail & high quality standards
  • Strong & Reliable WiFi connection
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Receptive to feedback
  • Able to compile feedback for others
  • Strong communication skills


Logistics

  • Salary between ZAR 17,000–22,000 depending on experience
  • Fully remote role - based anywhere in South Africa
  • Permanent / 40 hours per week
  • 3 month probation period
  • You will work as part of the editing team and report to the SEO Content Manager
  • Weekly content team meetings / Monthly full team meetings

  • Those who pass the competency test will be invited to a final interview with the Content Team Lead to ask any questions they may have about the role before an offer is made.
