Photonics Engineer in SPAIN

What you’ll do:

  • Design and simulate silicon photonics integrated optical devices for diverse applications, including biosensing and optical communications. 
  • Development of photonic integrated circuits according to foundry design rules, optimizing designs to ensure high yield and superior performance.
  • Formulate and implement test plans to evaluate the performance of photonic integrated circuits, including the definition of experimental characterization setups.
  • Measure of fabricated devices and analysis of experimental results.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electronic engineers, software developers, and system engineers, to seamlessly integrate photonic solutions into broader systems.
  • Document design processes, characterization results and project milestones.
  • Collaborate in the elaboration of project proposals for both R&D and customer-oriented projects (depending on seniority)


What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics or a related field, PhD in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with post-graduate specialization in photonics.
  • Relevant and demonstrable experience in photonics structures design and simulation preferably in a high-tech or startup environment, or during PhD. Experience in the design of photonics devices for optical communications applications is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with some of the main photonics design and simulation tools, i.e. Ansys Lumerical, Synopsis RSOFT, Tidy 3D, Meep and/or MPB.
  • Hands-on experience in mask layout design for commercial foundries. Experience in design flow and layout scripting for integrated photonics (e.g. Nazca, KLayout) is a big plus.
  • Experience with general engineering software such as Matlab, Labview and programming languages such as C/C++, Python…
  • Contrastable lab skills, including handling of optical instrumentation: laser, power meter, lenses, polarizers, IR-cameras…
  • Participation in research or industrial projects is a plus.
  • Exhibit passion, energy, and a high level of motivation to contribute to R&D projects and initiatives.
  • Showcase strong teamwork, organizational skills, autonomy, and project management capabilities.
