Senior Backend Engineer - Kotlin / Java, Fully remote UK - Start-up

We are looking for an experienced Senior Backend Engineer with a strong background in Kotlin and Java to join an innovative team working on a cutting-edge SaaS/PaaS product in the application security space.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a critical role in taking our platform to the next level, focusing on building robust, scalable APIs and services.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working with Kotlin and Java in a Start-Up environment with a solid understanding of the SaaS or PaaS landscape.

You'll be working with a small, agile team to design, implement, and enhance features, ensuring they meet the needs of our growing user base.

Must have:

• Kotlin
• Java
• Spring Boot
• Container deployment (Docker)
• AWS deployments (ECS, EKS)
• Start-up or security background (both would be better)

Responsibilities:

• Senior Backend Development efforts with a focus on Kotlin and Java
• Work independently to deliver high-quality, scalable solutions
• Collaborate with the team to enhance platform performance and reliability
• Propose technical and functional solutions aligned with business goals
• Engage in architectural discussions to shape the platform's direction
• Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing systems
• Ensure features are aligned with customer needs and contribute to product growth

Requirements:

• Strong experience with Kotlin and Java in production environments
• Proven track record in SaaS or PaaS product development
• Experience in startup environments, comfortable with fast-paced, flexible work settings
• Familiarity with API design and development
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Portfolio showcasing successfully implemented projects
• Effective time management and ability to self-manage in a remote setting
• Knowledge of Jira, Confluence, and Github Projects
• BSc in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
