We are looking for a Security & Systems Engineer to work at ESA’s premises in Darmstadt.
In this role you will support the definition and execution of R&D activities in the technology domains of security and systems engineering. You will support the technical management on monitoring and execution of cybersecurity R&D activities, for example the development of a secure space system engineering framework, security systems for ground segments, and innovative security penetration testing solutions.
Tasks and activities
The scope of work will include:
- Contribution to applications roll-out, validation and operations:
Contribution to the roll-out of engineering initiatives, applications and innovative solutions
Plan and facilitate workshops with end users; capture user needs, resolve encountered issues and demonstrate implementation.
Proactive identification of application domains and use cases for technology developments.
Validation and acceptance testing of software and review of data pack deliveries.
Contribution to software architectural design.
- Setup, configuration, maintenance and management of applications and environments for solution developments:
Use and operation of VMWare, GitLab, JIRA and other software development environment tools
Use and operation of Docker and container orchestration technologies
Environment and network setup, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Support and technical monitoring of software development for R&D projects, innovation tasks and lab projects:
Contribute to the definition, procurement and evaluation of new R&D initiatives.
Applying Agile Scrum development methodology and acting as Product Owner proxy
Project management.
Demonstration to end users.
- Contribution to standardisation initiatives and associated working and advisory groups in the domains of Secure Systems and software Engineering and Model Based Systems Engineering.
Skills and experience
The following skills and experience are mandatory:
- University Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
- Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience in security engineering and systems and software engineering, ideally in the context of space systems.
- Knowledge of novel technologies such as artificial intelligence, automated testing and complex event processing.
- Experience with development and maintenance of big software projects.
- Requirements management (knowledge of tools, e.g. DOORS).
- Test management (knowledge of tools, e.g. HPQC).
- Knowledge of project management.
- Knowledge of software engineering.
- Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) would be considered a strong asset.
The following skills and experience would be highly desirable:
- Knowledge of ESOC infrastructure (e.g. Scos-2000, SIMSAT, Egos MPS, EGS-CC)
- Knowledge of ESOC operational environment
- Knowledge of Spacecraft (especially for the SIM)
- Knowledge of Standards (Engineering and Quality)
- Awareness of the technology trends and interest in R&T
- Familiarity with MDS (Mission Data Systems) lifecycle
