Core Engineering - Material Expert
Job description:
Seat belt systems are designed to perform in highly dynamic load cases at several temperatures and conditions. For a robust selection of materials profound knowledge about the dynamic material properties are needed considering the impact of environmental conditions.
To support all colleagues in core engineering regarding material selection topics with the focus on dynamic material properties international collaboration is needed. One of the responsibilities is the evaluation of the demands as a first contact for core engineers. Documentation of the requests for prioritization of activities and preparation of presentations to take decisions is also in the scope. Structured working and continuous improvement of internal processes is a key to fulfill the demands. In detail the following tasks are part of the job:
- Organization of material characterization programs including:
o Communication with internal colleagues or external supplier to organize raw material
o Coordination of specimen preparation process
o Coordination of dynamic material tests
o Evaluation of test data and data post processing
o Documentation of test results
- Support in generation of material database and integration of test data into the data base
o Evaluation of internal material data bases, processes and demands
o Collection of existing internal and external test data and alignment of data structure
o Continuous integration of new test data
Profile:
- Bachelor of Science or Master in the field of mechanical engineering, civil engineering, physics or equivalent
- Theoretical background on Materials (Polymers, Metals)
- Knowledge about process-property interaction of materials
o Metals: material hardening, welding
o Polymers: injection molding induced crystallization and fiber orientation related anisotropy
- Experience in working with materials related design rules
- General knowledge about material characterization methods and testing standards
o Mechanical testing: tension, compression, charpy, …
o Thermal/Thermomechanical testing: DMA, DSC, TGA, Dilatometry, …
- Experience with scientific test data post processing software (DIADEM, Hyperworks, …)
- Standard office tools skills (outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, …)
- Language skills: English, very good speaking and writing
- Soft skills: Team oriented working in international teams
- Optional: work experience in automotive industry
