At Partner Tech - Assortment and Inbound, we are building and maintaining a broad array of services used by internal and external Partners to create and manage the assortment that will be offered in Zalando’s Fashion Store.
As a Senior Backend Engineer , you will be at the forefront of designing, developing, and maintaining the backend systems that underpin our platforms. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, front-end developers, and other stakeholders, to deliver robust and high-quality solutions.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
- Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems using Java and Kotlin.
- Work with product managers, front-end developers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of our backend systems.
- Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and deployment.
- Conduct code reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Collaborate with DevOps to ensure smooth deployment and monitoring of applications.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve our systems.
WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
- Proven experience as a Backend Engineer, with a strong focus on Java and Kotlin.
- Deep understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
- Experience with RESTful API design and development.
- Familiarity with microservices architecture and containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases and SQL.
- Experience with version control systems, particularly Git.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the e-commerce industry, particularly within B2B contexts.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Knowledge of NoSQL databases.
- Experience with message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Understanding of Agile methodologies and tools like JIRA.
