The Customer Care Technology team is seeking an Applied Scientist for a business-critical role. As an applied scientist in the Berlin based Machine Learning team, you will develop algorithms designed to improve customer experiences, working closely with the Product team and other peers to deliver solutions that align with business objectives.

WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)
- Provide Applied Science leadership for Customer Care department
- Bring in your strong scientific experience to solve complex business problems by developing and deploying production systems
- Understand Zalando and Customer Care organisation to provide the best business value using Applied Science
- Conduct research in Natural Language Processing, Generative models and related fields
- Communicate and Collaborate with peers, engineering and product leads and other business stakeholders to identify newer and better ways to solve customer problems
- Engage with broader Zalando Applied science community, coach and mentor Applied Scientist in the team to raise the bar
- Provide operational excellence by optimizing efficiency, cost, security, etc. You operate the software in production that your team is responsible for and respond to production incidents through creation of post mortems
WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
- Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Extensive research experience and expertise in natural language processing, deep learning, and related areas
- Experience using various Large Language Models such as GPT, Vertex, Llama, etc.
- Expertise in technical architectures of machine learning systems at scale
- Quick experimentation, prototyping and production readiness of machine learning solutions
- Coding experience in Python, and its libraries such as pandas, numpy, matplotlib, ML/DL frameworks such as sklearn, Tensorflow, Keras, Pytorch.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Git, AWS services, SQL, Databricks.
- Attention to code quality by writing high-performance reusable code including various tests
- Experience with performance benchmarking and testing of enterprise scale applications.
- Proficiency in explaining details, benefits and impact of the projects to diverse audiences.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and various stakeholders
