Job Description

An amazing opportunity has arisen for a Shift Technical Specialist.

As a Shift Technical Specialist, you will work with the IPT team to ensure the effective and efficient on-time delivery of batch production within the IPT area. This requires the delivery of process excellence and reliability across all areas of the IPT.

This role will require you to work shift (4-Cycle Shift).

Bring energy, knowledge, innovation to carry out the following

  • Lead and participate in problem solving teams across all areas of the IPT (e.g. reliability, Safety, Quality (e.g. CAPA/CLUE/QNs etc.).
  • Lead and close process related deviations and reports.
  • Support Operations team to consistently deliver on specific area Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), e.g. EHS metrics, Production Plan, OEE, compliance and team training.
  • Provides frontline technical EHS support & coaching to the operational team and be first point of contact for safety related concerns (e.g. Entropy actions/MOC/Permits/Risk assessments).
  • Review and coordinate review of electronic batch records and associated supporting documentation for batch release.
  • Troubleshoot issues which may arise during shift cycle and implement MPS problem solving techniques and complete associated documentation to support resolution.
  • Support batch progression and trend downtime to understand root cause and improvement opportunities for future downtime prevention initiatives.
  • Protocol/report authoring/execution/oversight/approval as appropriate.
  • Ensure highest Quality, Compliance and Safety standards.
  • Participate and comply with the our company's Manufacturing Division Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, including ownership, as relevant.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to cross functional team members, to share process, engineering and maintenance best practices.
  • Provide coaching and development to all technicians within the IPT.
  • Provide SME support to the shift and day teams as required.
  • Tactical Implementation & Support for reliability equipment initiatives.
  • Ensure supply of high-quality product through ensuring equipment availability; maximize team member performance through continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide technical, process and engineering expertise within a wide range of projects within the IPT, such as the introduction of new equipment and process’s.
  • Author/approve Change controls and MEDs documents as appropriate.

Our company has a rapidly growing interdisciplinary team of scientists in London and exciting plans to expand our London presence, initially at the Francis Crick Institute as part of our ‘Skylab’ expansion in 2024, and from 2027 in our new ‘state of art’ and fully integrated Research and Discovery Center at the hub of London’s knowledge Quarter, which will be home to approximately 180 scientists alongside other colleagues in discovery research, clinical, regulatory and business roles, including marketing, finance and administration.

Our teams combine leading drug discovery capabilities and world-class R&D with the purpose of turning breakthrough science into life-changing medicines through improving our understanding of how our potential new therapies and medicines work at a cellular and molecular level in the patients we serve.

Our London Discovery Centre is seeking a passionate and driven Senior Scientist to join our Neuroscience team based at the London Bioscience Innovation Centre (LBIC) in St. Pancras, London. In this fixed term Senior Scientist position, you will contribute to cutting-edge discovery biology research utilising induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to investigate neurodegenerative diseases.

You will join a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary research team and interact with scientists across our Discovery organisation, who have extensive experience in neurodegeneration, cellular biology, in vitro pharmacology, chemistry, and data science.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Maintain human iPSCs and iPSC-derived cells; feeding, passaging, differentiating and plating and establish a QC package for iPSC work.
  • Design, implement and perform experiments to support the development of drug candidates within iPSC models. These experiments will include high content imaging, functional assays and molecular biological technqiues.
  • Keep up to date with advancements in the field of iPSC use in neuroscience research and apply relevant knowledge to enhance experimental approaches.
  • Collaborate with members from other functional areas across our wider networkto drive progress.
  • Timely write-up of reports and data analysis.
  • Oral and written communication of data in a clear and concise manner to the appropriate teams and stakeholders.

Minimum Education & Experience Minimum Requirements

  • Recently completed PhD, or BSc or MSc, in a life sciences discipline (Neuroscience, Biochemistry, or related discipline) with pharmaceutical industry experience.

Required Experience And Skills

  • Expertise in human iPSC culture from iPSC maintenance to differentiation into CNS cell types.
  • Strong scientific understanding of mechanisms of neurodegeneration.
  • Expertise in molecular biology and microscopy techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail in experimental design and data analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Demonstratable Experience

  • Expertise in complex iPSC-derived cell cultures (co-culture to 3D)
  • Proficiency in use of live cell instruments such as high content imagers, MEAs, and Incucyte.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of drug discovery and assay development.
  • Expertise in operating high throughput instrumentation, including plate readers and liquid handling instrumentation.
