# Senior Software Engineer – AI & Data
## About the Role
Mento is seeking a **product-minded Senior Software Engineer** with experience building data-related products to help develop its AI and software coaching platform. This role combines software engineering, data, artificial intelligence, and product development to create software experiences that extend the impact of human coaching.
You’ll join a small engineering team and collaborate closely with design and coaching teams to build new product experiences, develop AI-enabled capabilities, translate coaching workflows into AI agents, and create scalable data integrations. This is a product-focused role suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys early-stage environments, rapid iteration, and working across technical boundaries.
**This role is open to candidates located in the United States or Canada.**
## Key Responsibilities
* Build and ship **0-to-1 product features and experiences** for Mento's coaching platform.
* Make technical trade-offs and take appropriate risks while developing early-stage products.
* Design and develop **AI-enabled application capabilities** using foundational models.
* Create AI capabilities that are adaptable, reusable, and scalable.
* Work with Mento's coaching team to translate coaching insights and workflows into high-quality **AI agents and product experiences**.
* Design and build scalable, reusable pipelines and integrations for importing and exporting data.
* Integrate the product with productivity and learning and development tools.
* Contribute to the architecture of data-related applications and systems.
* Share expertise in data engineering, AI, and software development through peer mentorship, code reviews, lunch-and-learns, and other team activities.
* Collaborate with engineering, design, and coaching teams throughout product development.
* Contribute to an iterative product development process within an early-stage startup environment.
## Required Qualifications
* Professional experience as a **software engineer** shipping data-related products to production and real users.
* Experience with **server-side web applications**.
* Experience working with dynamic programming languages.
* Understanding of core **data engineering and software architecture concepts** for modern data-driven applications.
* Experience working in a fast-moving, dynamic environment with some ambiguity.
* Experience integrating **LLM-based coding tools** into software development workflows.
