Sr. Mechanical Designer (Transformer Design Exp. Req.) Description

Our client in the transformer industry is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Designer to add to their team in Buffalo, NY. In this role, you will develop and improve mechanical designs for customized transformers, ensuring solutions are technically sound, manufacturable, and cost-effective. The ideal candidate will have strong transformer design experience, 3D modeling skills, and knowledge of applicable codes and industry standards. To be successful, you must have strong attention to detail, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to deliver accurate, manufacturable designs while collaborating across teams and mentoring junior engineers. Sr. Mechanical Designer (Transformer Design Exp. Req.) Responsibilities

• Develop mechanical designs for customized oil-filled transformers

• Perform design calculations to develop manufacturable, cost-effective solutions

• Develop Bills of Material for standard and custom transformer components

• Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation

• Define loads and boundary conditions for FEA and review completed analysis

• Create and modify designs using 2D CAD and 3D modeling software

• Ensure designs meet customer requirements and applicable industry standards

• Troubleshoot production and field issues and implement corrective design changes

• Collaborate with engineering, sales, project management, and manufacturing teams

• Support new product development, testing, validation, and continuous improvement

• Maintain and improve engineering and mechanical design standards

• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers

Sr. Mechanical Designer (Transformer Design Exp. Req.) Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or an equivalent discipline is required

• 5+ years of transformer design experience, including BOM creation, is required

• Experience designing oil-filled or liquid-immersed transformers is required

• Strong proficiency with 2D CAD and 3D modeling software is required

• Strong working knowledge of applicable codes & standards, including ANSI & IEEE, is required

• Ability to work 100% on-site is required
