Backend Engineer I (Node.js) - Remote (Brazil)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Engineer I based in Brazil.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the evolution of a strategic digital platform with a strong focus on accessibility and user impact.

You will work on backend services and APIs that support products and integrations used across a growing technology ecosystem.

The role combines hands-on development with exposure to architecture, messaging, observability, and scalable systems.

You will collaborate with experienced engineers through code reviews and technical discussions while strengthening your development practices.

The environment is remote-first, autonomous, collaborative, and centered on continuous learning and agile delivery.

You will also have the opportunity to incorporate AI-powered development tools into your daily workflow to improve productivity.

Accountabilities

• Develop and maintain backend APIs and services using Node.js for strategic products and integrations.
• Contribute to APIs consumed by other applications, with a focus on quality, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Participate in the evolution of backend architecture, messaging, and observability solutions.
• Work with technologies and tools such as RabbitMQ, Datadog, and Elasticsearch as part of the platform's technical ecosystem.
• Participate actively in code reviews and technical discussions, applying and learning software engineering best practices.
• Collaborate with other engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable solutions in an agile environment.
• Apply AI-powered development tools to accelerate implementation, improve productivity, and support the team's engineering workflows.
• Contribute to troubleshooting and continuous improvement as exposure to production systems increases.
  
  

Requirements

• Professional experience developing backend applications with Node.js and building REST APIs.
• Knowledge of MongoDB and MySQL, including experience working with APIs consumed by other applications.
• Understanding of messaging systems such as RabbitMQ or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with observability concepts and tools such as Datadog and Elasticsearch.
• Understanding of fundamental software architecture and backend development best practices.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, n8n, or comparable solutions.
• Academic or professional experience with agile methodologies and a strong willingness to learn and grow through challenging projects.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across different teams.
  
  

Nice to have

• Experience with distributed systems, high-volume data environments, or production troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of API versioning, API lifecycle management, and technical documentation using Swagger/OpenAPI.
• Understanding of API security concepts, including authentication, authorization, and rate limiting.
• Backend experience with TypeScript and frameworks such as NestJS or Fastify.
