Senior System Engineer - Bare Metal

Bare metal (server) hardware is at the core of Leaseweb’s product offering. Over the past decade we hav e spent a lot of time and effort to automate nearly all of the server provisioning process for over 80.000 servers across our 19 datacenters.

The Team

T he Bare Metal team focus on automation of all aspects of the product lifecycle ( firmware , OS provisioning, management, API) .

Our team has various backgrounds , cultures and a wide range of skills and experience . W e like playing around with all equipment in our datacenter which has a n IP address. Ideally, we automate as much of the datacenter as we can, so we are able to deliver a re liable platform ( and API ) to our customers. The teams are multi-disciplinary . Software Engineers and System Engineers work together every day to build new features and platforms. They fully maintain and troubleshoot their existing infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain and support the teams data center infrastructure.
  • Understand and maintain the software running on said infrastructure.
  • Develop, maintain and support our data center automation products and


driving feature development.

  • 3rd line incident support (EOD).
  • Working closely with other departments at Leaseweb.
  • Identify and propose solutions for improvements or structural problems.


Who are you?

You are passionate about Scrum/Agile values, principles and practices. You believe that continuous improvement also applies to yourself, and have the desire to grow. You are not afraid to experiment but at the same time keep in mind stability and reliability.

Your skillset?

  • Common Linux distributions (Ubuntu, and optionally Red Hat, Debian)
  • Seniority with configuration management systems such as chef (preferred) or


others.

  • Team player; ability to help your peers and open to your peers helping you.
  • Scripting skills: Shell, Python, Ruby or PHP etc.
  • Knowledge of monitoring systems like Icinga is desirable
  • Experience with common server hardware (Dell, HP), RAID controllers and


accompanying software tools is desirable

  • Familiarity or interested hosting infrastructure (Networking, servers, switches,


routers, power distribution).

  • Familiarity or interested in protocols such as: TCP/IP, DHCP, PXE, VLAN


(802.1Q), QinQ (802.1ad), BGP.

  • Basic understanding of virtualisation systems such as kvm/qemu.
  • Driven to improve quality and prevent incidents.
  • Fluent English communication skills
