About The Role
We are looking for a Senior Elasticsearch & Observability Engineer to design, build and evolve the Elastic Stack that underpins observability across a complex, multi-platform landscape — Mainframe, Open Systems and Container platforms. The role combines deep technical execution with platform optimisation, cross-team collaboration and coaching, and you will be a reference point for observability adoption across the organisation.
What You'll Do
- Design, build, maintain and extend the Elastic Stack (Beats, Elastic Agents, Logstash, Elasticsearch, Kibana)
- Drive observability practices and design solutions for applications hosted on Mainframe, Open Systems and Container platforms
- Own platform performance, indexing efficiency, log retention policies, data lifecycle management and secure access control
- Track vendor updates, new releases and market trends to continuously evolve the platform
- Work closely with development, architecture and operations teams to integrate observability into CI/CD practices
- Establish best practices and governance for application monitoring and compliance with coding standards
- Coach and mentor team members and drive adoption of new observability solutions
- Work with stakeholders to analyse needs, estimate effort, co-create roadmaps and report progress to Product Owners and management
- Lead production troubleshooting, root cause analysis, P1/P2 incident handling and release execution
- University degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a comparable technical field
- 5–10 years of hands-on experience in IT environments, with a focus on observability and production support
- Strong hands-on expertise across the Elastic platform (Beats, Elastic Agents, Logstash, Elasticsearch, Kibana) and OpenTelemetry standards
- Solid command of observability fundamentals: logs, metrics, traces, golden signals, log analysis, dashboard creation and alerting configuration
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD tooling (Bitbucket, Git, Jenkins, UCD, Ansible) and automated testing frameworks
- Docker and Kubernetes; REST API fundamentals and system integration
- Linux and Windows fundamentals: processes, file systems, shell, key metrics
- Proven track record in Agile delivery and incident/release management
- Experience in cross-team coordination, stakeholder communication and effort estimation
- Understanding of security controls: authentication, RBAC, access management and audit compliance
- Professional English at C1 level, spoken and written (mandatory)
