Job Description Summary GE Vernova Wind is looking for an experienced professional to work on challenging assignments, in a cross functional engineering discipline for fleet issues with high business impact. All activities consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a solution keeping SQDC in mind.

The role will entail working independently to form and lead diverse RCA teams of subject matter experts and stakeholders, in a global matrix-ed organization, and ensure in timely and complete resolution of turbine or fleet technical problems.

In this role, you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and drive execution of action plans for containment, correction, and prevention of technical problems.

As a Senior Engineer, you will seek opportunities to improve RCA outcomes by incorporating lessons learnt in products, supporting colleagues on other RCAs, leading teams to provide the highest levels of execution, and assuming leadership on process improvement.

The position requires understanding of engineering concepts, problem solving & project management methods and procedures.

Essential Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Assume ownership of the 8D root cause analysis process for assigned RCAs, form, and lead team through 8D process, identify stakeholders, and subject matter experts and establish agreement on RCA objectives and expectations.
  • Define a concise problem statement, based on the history and observations of the issue. Communicate, as appropriate what is known and not known, examples of Good/Bad/Standard, relevant timelines, affected customers and turbines, impact to availability and cost, supply chain status, and other available objective evidence.
  • Define technical workstreams, identify owners and gain agreement on task completion dates to quickly reduce quality costs and customer pain. Work with leadership to ensure workstreams are effective, on track, and prioritized.
  • Maintain documentation (Quality Suite, Technical Underwriting, Reports, Presentations, etc.), and other tools like Confluence for standard work on RCA’s. Create and drive expedite fleet communications - correct documentation, manuals, work instructions, TIL’s, etc.
  • Own internal & external (customer) communications related to RCA’s, coordinate stakeholder input, providing information and formats based on need and audience. Work with legal team, as needed, to balance customer relationship and protect GE Vernova IP
  • Identify and mitigate risk to action plans, ensuring RCA executes with urgency.
  • Identify (and take responsibility as appropriate for) misses during RCA execution and take steps to swiftly correct course.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, as needed, to support timely execution of RCAs. Drive prioritization and quick execution.
  • Coordinate monitoring of the failure mode and/or effects in the target fleets, including impact on availability
  • Investigate other fleet and other systems/components for failure mode risk.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute monitoring, inspections, tests and allocate resources considering the criticality of assets and impact on customers.
  • Engage subject matter experts and stakeholders to assess the scope and severity of potential impacts, and to execute swift response and resolution.
  • Develop & Coordinate Containment Actions with urgency to reduce quality costs and customer pain.
  • Identify safety considerations presented by the issue or containment actions, and coordinate support by additional teams to mitigate.
  • Make stop-the-line recommendations (turbine, manufacturing, supplier, etc.), and define criteria for resuming operation.
  • Identify root causes & contributing factors using established problem-solving tools. Guide subject matter experts in discussions and tool use. Maintain objectivity in theory development. Identify and balances the need for additional evidence with the need to quickly resolve customer pain. Execute methods for additional evidence (data, lab, teardown, failure turn-on/turn-off, etc.).
  • Guide team in new methods of data sources and analyses to identify and validate root causes, considering cost and time.
  • Support Global Commodity Leader (GCL) for vendor recovery. Provide in depth technical analysis and participate as necessary in supplier discussions.
  • Lead team in conceptualizing design and/or process changes, evaluating changes for impact on eliminating failure causes, modes, or effects, and down-selecting and prioritizing based on impact and cost effectiveness. Develop the business case by providing a comparison of cost of ‘doing nothing’ to the chosen corrective action strategies.
  • Drive validation of chosen corrective actions maintaining urgency of implementation and managing implementation risks.
  • Lead team in developing preventative actions and action plan.
  • Identify the gaps in GE design and business processes for why the problem “Occurred” and “was Not Detected.
  • Develop new processes or change to design and processes to prevent recurrence in future products.
  • Assess other platforms for risk and applies corrective actions as needed.
  • Conduct post-closure reviews of RCA actions and outcomes to evaluate their effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement and maintaining high standards of quality in the RCA process.
  • Support colleagues in post-closure reviews.
  • Assume leadership in special projects as needed to develop the RCA process, tools, and talent.
  • Take ownership of RCA tasks and deliver without supervision, while mentoring and helping team members through impediments.
  • Demonstrates awareness about product positioning and differentiations.
  • Evaluate design and technology choices, analyze impact and articulate tradeoffs at RCA level.
  • Demonstrates expert understanding of functional and nonfunctional requirements and their priority within the action list and awareness of latest technical developments in own area and bring new perspective on existing solutions.
  • Work across multiple components and products as an integrated system for maximum performance and operability
  • Understand product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down across platforms, product configurations and configuration control system.
  • Exhibit in-depth knowledge of best practices and how own area integrates with others; working knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate them in the market
  • Use judgment to make decisions or solve complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/ product management, technology or engineering.
  • Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
  • Uses multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own function to arrive at decisions.
  • Explain difficult or sensitive information; works to build consensus, develop persuasion skills required to influence others on topics within field.

Basic Qualifications

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in STEM with strong academic credentials.
  • 7 to 10 years’ experience in Wind industry and/or Root Cause Analysis
  • Qualification in Quality, Project Management, EHS is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze impact of technology choices, explore alternate technology and approaches to solving problems.
  • Proven analytical and learning skills facilitating in breaking down problems, documenting problem statements and estimating efforts
  • In-depth understanding of agile software development lifecycle and SCRUM
  • Strong Multi-Tasking and proactive and open approach to conflict resolution
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and working in global team environment enabling seamless communication on execution status, issues, and resolutions.
