Role Overview

We are seeking a talented and motivated Ruby on Rails Developer with strong expertise in

cloud infrastructure (AWS) and relational databases (PostgreSQL). In this role, you will be

responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable server-side web applications. You

will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including front-end developers, product

managers, and designers, to deliver high-quality, secure, and performant solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Application Development: Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable Ruby code using the Rails framework.
• Database Architecture: Design and optimize relational databases using PostgreSQL, including writing complex queries, managing migrations, and ensuring data integrity and overall system performance.
• Cloud Infrastructure: Deploy, monitor, and scale applications utilizing Amazon Web Services (AWS). Manage and configure core services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Elastic Beanstalk.
• API Design: Develop and maintain RESTful (or GraphQL) APIs to seamlessly support front-end integrations and third-party services.
• Code Quality & Testing: Write comprehensive automated test suites using tools like RSpec or Capybara. Conduct peer code reviews to maintain code quality, organization, and automation.
• Performance Optimization: Identify bottlenecks and bugs, devising solutions to mitigate these issues and ensure application scalability for high-traffic environments.
• Collaboration: Work in an Agile environment, actively participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record in building web applications in a production environment.
• Ruby on Rails: Expert-level understanding of Ruby syntax, object-oriented programming, and the Rails framework (MVC architecture, ActiveRecord, ActiveJob).
• Database Management: Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL, including database design, indexing, query optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Cloud Computing: Hands-on experience with the AWS ecosystem and deployment pipelines. Familiarity with managing cloud environments and ensuring robust system security.
• Version Control: Proficiency with Git and GitHub/GitLab in a collaborative, team-based setting.
• Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills with a proactive approach to tackling complex technical challenges.
• Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

• Experience with modern front-end technologies (e.g., JavaScript, React, Vue.js, HTML5, CSS3).
• Familiarity with background job processing and queuing systems (e.g., Sidekiq, Redis).

Further Role Description:

As a Backend Engineer – Ruby on Rails (AWS / PostgreSQL) at AIMA, you will design, develop, and maintain backend services that power our healthcare revenue cycle management platforms. In this full-time remote role, you will build and optimize RESTful APIs, integrate third-party services, and ensure scalable, secure, and performant data handling using Ruby on Rails, AWS, and PostgreSQL. You will collaborate closely with product managers, front-end engineers, and QA to refine requirements, implement new features, and resolve technical issues. Daily responsibilities include writing clean, tested, and well-documented code, performing code reviews, troubleshooting production incidents, and improving system reliability and automation. You will also participate in architecture discussions, contribute to technical standards, and help enhance deployment and monitoring practices across our cloud infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Strong back-end web development skills, including building and maintaining APIs and server-side logic.
• Professional software development experience, with focus on Ruby on Rails or similar web frameworks.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming (OOP) principles and design patterns.
• Programming proficiency in Ruby and familiarity with additional languages or scripting tools.
• Basic front-end development knowledge to collaborate effectively with UI engineers (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
• Hands-on experience with AWS services (e.g., EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda) and cloud-based application deployment.
• Practical experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization.
• Competence with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing frameworks.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage priorities, and communicate clearly with distributed teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; prior work in healthcare or fintech systems is a plus.
