Oversee payroll tax reporting, garnishments, W-2 processing, audits, payroll controls, and regulatory compliance
Establish and maintain strong internal controls and audit-ready payroll processes
Partner closely with HR, Finance, Accounting, Benefits, HRIS, and IT teams to support organizational objectives
Drive payroll transformation initiatives, process improvements, and system optimization efforts
Lead or support payroll implementations, system conversions, integrations, and modernization projects
Develop and maintain payroll policies, procedures, and standard operating practices
Analyze payroll metrics and identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and employee experience
Support mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and organizational growth initiatives as needed
Provide executive-level communication and reporting to senior leadership

Job Description


Leading national healthcare company seeks a Remote Payroll Manager/Manager of Payroll Operations to lead payroll operations for a nationally recognized healthcare organization with nearly 20,000 employees across multiple states.


This is a highly visible leadership role responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing while driving operational excellence, payroll transformation initiatives, audit readiness, and continuous process improvement. The Payroll Manager will lead a global payroll team spanning the United States and India and serve as a strategic business partner to senior leaders across Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, Benefits, HR Technology, and Operations.


Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce of approximately 20,000 employees.
  • Manage and develop a payroll team of 7-8 professionals located across the United States and India.
  • Ensure payroll accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Oversee payroll tax reporting, garnishments, W-2 processing, audits, payroll controls, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of payroll leadership experience with direct responsibility for end-to-end payroll operations.
  • Experience managing complex, multi-state payroll environments supporting approximately 10,000+ employees.
  • Proven experience leading payroll teams, developing staff, and managing performance.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, wage and hour laws, garnishments, payroll audits, and controls.
  • Experience partnering with HR, Finance, Accounting, Benefits, and HR Technology teams.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement capabilities.


Salary and Bonus:

  • $120,000 - $135,000 Base Salary + 10% Annual Bonus Target
