The Role

We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to build the most visible and technically ambitious part of the Cortextual platform.

This isn't a typical CRUD application filled with forms and tables. You'll build a highly interactive product where users explore their organisation, visualise complex workforce structures, drag and reorganise teams, model organisational changes, and instantly understand the business impact through rich visual feedback.

You'll own the frontend architecture and collaborate closely with Product Design and Engineering to transform complex workflows into intuitive experiences that feel fast, polished, and effortless to use. As part of a small engineering team, you'll have significant ownership over technical decisions—from component architecture and state management to performance optimisation and interaction design.

What You Will Own

• The frontend architecture powering Cortextual's interactive organisation modelling experience.
• Complex visual interfaces including hierarchy views, drag-and-drop interactions, organisational charts, and real-time cost simulations.
• Component architecture that remains scalable, reusable, and maintainable as the product evolves.
• State management strategy across highly interactive user workflows.
• Performance optimization for rendering large datasets and maintaining smooth user interactions.
• Close collaboration with Product Design to deliver pixel-perfect implementations and exceptional user experience.
• Frontend quality standards including testing, accessibility, responsiveness, and maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop highly interactive React applications using TypeScript.
• Build responsive, data-rich interfaces with a strong focus on usability, performance, and visual quality.
• Develop complex drag-and-drop experiences, interactive diagrams, and organizational visualizations.
• Translate product and design concepts into intuitive user experiences with attention to every interaction detail.
• Optimize rendering performance for large datasets through memoization, virtualization, efficient state updates, and browser rendering best practices.
• Build reusable UI components and establish scalable frontend architecture patterns.
• Collaborate closely with backend engineers to deliver end-to-end product features.
• Debug browser performance issues involving rendering, reflows, layout shifts, and memory usage.
• Continuously improve code quality through testing, code reviews, and technical best practices.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and continuously improve the frontend engineering standards across the platform.

What You Bring

Must Have

• 4+ years of professional frontend engineering experience.
• Strong experience building modern applications using React and TypeScript.
• Excellent understanding of React Hooks, Context API, custom hooks, and component composition patterns.
• Strong knowledge of JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, and browser APIs.
• Experience building highly interactive, data-heavy products such as dashboards, design tools, editors, analytics platforms, or visualization software.
• Solid understanding of browser rendering, DOM manipulation, layout, reflow, repaint, and frontend performance optimization.
• Experience working with SVG and data visualization libraries such as D3.js, Visx, or similar.
• Experience with state management libraries including Zustand, Redux, or equivalent solutions.

Nice to Have

• Experience with diagramming libraries such as React Flow, GoJS, JointJS, d3-hierarchy, or d3-flextree.
• Experience optimizing applications handling very large datasets.
• Knowledge of virtualization techniques, render optimization, memoization, and performance profiling.
• Experience building B2B SaaS products, particularly early-stage startups.
• Familiarity with modern frontend testing frameworks and CI/CD practices.
