Senior Full Stack PHP / Symfony Software Developer

Our client is a rapidly growing technology company building software solutions for the Clinical Trials and Medical Meetings industries, serving clients across 67 countries worldwide.

They are looking for an experienced Senior Full Stack PHP / Symfony Software Developer to join our engineering team. This is a hands-on role for a seasoned backend engineer with deep PHP and Symfony expertise, strong Object-Oriented Programming fundamentals, and a track record of building, maintaining, and improving complex production applications.

You’ll work across an established suite of interconnected products, developing new functionality while helping us modernize and improve our existing platform. You’ll collaborate with experienced engineers and technical leadership in an Agile, Scrum, and test-driven development environment.

This position is 100% remote within the United States.

What You'll Work On

Our software supports critical workflows across clinical trials and medical meetings, including:

• Meeting itinerary planning, scheduling, and tracking
• Event, content, and speaker management
• Invitations, email, and marketing campaigns
• Vendor payments and expense tracking
• Communication among clinical-trial patients, caregivers, and pharmaceutical organizations
• Clinical-trial compliance and governance

What You'll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications using PHP and Symfony
• Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-tested Object-Oriented code
• Build new functionality supported by meaningful automated unit and integration tests
• Develop and maintain PHP modules, services, RESTful APIs, and third-party integrations
• Analyze business and application requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions
• Troubleshoot complex application, integration, database, and production issues
• Improve the performance, reliability, scalability, and maintainability of existing applications
• Collaborate with Senior Engineers and technical leadership on application design and complex development challenges
• Contribute to the ongoing modernization of our applications and development practices
• Participate actively in Agile/Scrum planning, estimation, and technical discussions
• Take ownership of assigned work from analysis through development, testing, and completion

What We're Looking For

• 8-10 years of professional PHP development experience
• 3-5 years of professional Symfony development experience
• Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) and software design principles
• Strong knowledge of modern PHP application architecture and development practices

• Professional experience with MongoDB
• Strong command-line Git skills, including branching, merging, conflict resolution, rebasing, reverting, stashing, and cherry-picking
• Strong experience with PHPUnit and automated testing
• Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs and third-party integrations
• Working knowledge of Linux, Nginx, Bash, permissions, cron jobs, and related application/server operations
• Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD)
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment
• Strong database, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong sense of ownership and accountability
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a distributed engineering team

Nice to Have

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
• Experience with Composer
• Experience with Docker and containerized environments
• Knowledge of MongoDB scaling and sharding
• Experience with React or other modern JavaScript frameworks
• Familiarity with AWS and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience modernizing or refactoring mature production applications
• Experience developing software for healthcare, clinical trials, life sciences, pharmaceutical technology, or another regulated industry
