About the Role
As a Principal Applied Scientist at Albatross, you will be at the forefront of our efforts to innovate and enhance our personalization engine. Your primary responsibility will be to research, develop, and implement the next generation of personalization algorithms. This role requires expertise in advanced machine learning techniques, including sequential models, deep reinforcement learning, and multi-armed bandits. You will lead the end-to-end process from ideation to production, ensuring that our solutions meet the diverse needs of our customers.
Based in Berlin, this position supports a hybrid work model, with three days in the office each week, and we offer relocation assistance for new team members. You will report directly to our Chief Scientist, collaborating with the CTO, and other team members to drive the technical strategy and execution of our AI initiatives.
In This Role, You Will:
- Scope and Solve Problems: Work with customers to understand their needs and translate them into machine learning-based personalization solutions.
- Algorithm Selection: Identify and define the most appropriate algorithmic approaches to solve complex personalization challenges.
- Model Implementation: Implement state-of-the-art personalization models, leveraging techniques such as deep learning sequential models, multi-armed bandits, and reinforcement learning.
- Data Experimentation: Conduct extensive experiments with large datasets to fine-tune model performance and identify the best approaches.
- System Evaluation: Develop evaluation methods for new capabilities and rigorously assess the performance of our current systems.
- Continuous Innovation: Experiment with and integrate new capabilities into our personalization engine.
- Performance Analysis: Analyze model behavior, identify weaknesses, and propose improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Production Code: Dive deep into our codebase, contribute to production-level ML code, and perform necessary bug fixes.
- Scalable Training: Manage and optimize large-scale training jobs, ensuring they run efficiently and effectively.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years in applied research and 3+ years of building machine learning models for business applications.
- Education: PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field.
- Programming Skills: Proficient in Python, with experience in deep learning frameworks and machine learning libraries such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, and Spark.
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in deep learning methods, personalization algorithms, and handling large-scale distributed systems.
- Research and Development: Proven ability to translate cutting-edge research into practical, scalable solutions.
