Job Description
Chumley is an early-stage tech startup building software that gives tradespeople the flexibility and tools they need to focus on their work, streamlining workflows and keeping more engineers operating at optimum levels. The team is small, ambitious, and focused on shipping practical, high-impact tools used in the field every day.
Chumley is looking for a Frontend Developer to own our public web presence end-to-end. You will design and build chumley.com, the first thing every customer, engineer, and investor sees, and you will own it from the first wireframe through to what ships. This is a hands-on role with unusual breadth: you will move between design, frontend, light backend, and the content systems that keep it all running, and you will see your work in front of real users within weeks rather than quarters.
What you'll be doing
- Designing and building chumley.com from the ground up, taking pages from rough concept through design to production.
- Building fast, accessible, responsive interfaces in React, TypeScript, and Next.js that hold up on a phone in a van as well as on a desktop.
- Owning the visual and interaction design of the site, working in Figma and turning your own work into code.
- Setting up and maintaining a CMS so non-engineers across the team can update content without needing a developer.
- Handling the light backend work the site needs, including forms, integrations, API routes, analytics, and deployment.
- Making the site perform, covering page speed, Core Web Vitals, SEO fundamentals, and conversion.
- Working directly with the founder to translate what Chumley does into a site that actually explains it.
- Growing into product frontend work over time as the site matures and ChumleyOS expands.

- 3–5 years building production web frontends, with strong React and TypeScript.
- Solid Next.js experience, including routing, server-side rendering, and data fetching.
- Real design ability. You can take a blank page and a vague brief and produce something that looks considered, not just functional.
- Genuine CSS skill covering layout, responsive design, and modern tooling.
- Comfort reaching into the backend when the work needs it, whether that is API routes, a database, or a deployment pipeline.
- Experience with a headless CMS such as Sanity, Contentful, Payload, or similar.
- A working understanding of web accessibility, built in from the start rather than retrofitted.
- Clear written communication. In a remote team this matters as much as your code.
- Comfort working in a small, fast-moving startup, taking ownership from idea to deployment.
Nice to have
- Experience with a second framework ecosystem such as Vue or Nuxt, and a view on the trade-offs between approaches.
- Marketing site or brand work where you were measured on conversion, not just delivery.
- Animation and interaction design.
- SEO experience on a site you took from zero.
- Testing experience with tools such as Playwright, Vitest, or Testing Library.
- Previous work on tools for trades, field services, logistics, or other operations-heavy environments.
- A portfolio, GitHub, or side projects we can look at.

What you'll get
- Full ownership of Chumley's public face, with your name on the work rather than a ticket queue.
- The chance to set the design language, frontend architecture, and tooling from scratch at an early-stage startup.
- Close collaboration with the founder and a small, senior team, with direct impact on roadmap and priorities.
- A clear path into product engineering as ChumleyOS grows.
- Fully remote, wherever you are. We do not require a specific timezone and we work async by default.
If you like owning things end-to-end, care about how the work looks as well as how it functions, and want to build for an industry that has been badly served by software, Chumley's Frontend Developer role could be a great fit.
Chumley is an equal opportunity employer. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are happy to make adjustments to our process on request.
