Job Description
Join us as a (Senior) Backend Software Engineer (all genders) in our Vehicle Perception team and help shape the future of autonomous mobility!
To realise the vision of autonomous ride pooling, the Vehicle Integration domain develops the tools and applications that make passenger management possible without a driver. How can passengers authenticate themselves in the vehicle? How do we ensure a safe cabin during boarding and the ride? What content should be shown on the screens to create a safe and informative experience?
The Vehicle Perception team addresses some of these challenges by building end-to-end solutions for live video streaming, operator communication, and computer vision inside our vehicles. The team develops the technical foundation for real-time cabin awareness. This includes live video pipelines that stream reliably from the vehicle to backend systems, as well as interfaces and services that enable operators to connect with passengers and provide timely support. In addition, it implements perception models that are meant to detect and classify cabin states — for example, identifying occupied seats, forgotten objects, or compliance with safety requirements.
Our team has the necessary roles on board to take full responsibility for the given value streams: from backend and embedded developers to quality specialists, functional safety experts and product managers.
We are looking forward to getting to know you, and would be really happy to welcome you as part of our team.
What You Will Do
- Bridge the data flow of the AWS based backend infrastructure and the in-vehicle components using AWS services (e.g. AWS Chime for video stream, AWS IoT for communication )
- Work in a bottom-up managed, autonomous, cross-functional team together with other talented engineers
- Implement robust functions which meet automotive standards
- Participate in the full development life cycle, from design to implementation, quality assurance and maintenance
- Interface with VW Group, vendors, and other partners to align on software interfaces, tooling and hardware
- Knowledge of current trends in software design, event-driven architecture, DevOps and a strong interest in further development
- Knowledge of TypeScript or another modern programming language used on the backend
- Experience with AWS IoT and serverless services like AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, S3
- General understanding of the Linux platform and system development
- Interest in applying agile development practices and a proactive, flexible and hands-on mindset
