Job Description
DERC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Underwater Acoustics Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building and testing underwater systems, along with a passion for innovation and problem-solving in the underwater domain.
Main Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize underwater acoustic systems and sensors, with a focus on sonar technology.
- Conduct research and feasibility studies to improve the performance and capabilities of sonar systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate acoustic systems into larger underwater platforms or vehicles.
- Lead the testing and validation of sonar systems in controlled laboratory environments as well as in real-world underwater conditions.
- Analyze and interpret acoustic data to evaluate system performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Stay current with advancements in underwater acoustics technology and contribute to the development of new concepts and methodologies based on client’s use case requirements.
- Document the technical data generated for the assigned tasks to ensure comprehensive records are maintained.
- Enhance the visibility of the organization by participating in international conferences and publishing academic papers relevant to the position.
- Other duties related to the role, as assigned by line manager.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (min. 5 years) in underwater acoustics, with a focus on designing and testing sonar systems.
- Strong proficiency in acoustic signal processing, data analysis, and simulation tools/software (e.g., MATLAB, COMSOL).
- Hands-on experience with acoustic transducers, hydrophones, and other underwater sensors.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present findings and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
