About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Frontend Developer with expertise in React, TypeScript, and Node.js to join a dynamic, global eCommerce organization. This role is based in Leicester with relocation support available, offering a unique opportunity to influence the technical direction of a high-traffic digital platform used by millions of customers worldwide. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership within a critical engineering team, shaping the development of scalable, performant, and modern frontend solutions. This position is ideal for a senior developer who aims to lead by example, drive engineering standards, and mentor other developers without moving into line management. You will work closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile environment, contributing to architectural decisions and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software that enhances the customer experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong commercial experience with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Proven experience developing high-traffic, customer-facing web applications, preferably within the eCommerce sector.
  • Extensive knowledge of Node.js for backend integration and server-side rendering.
  • Previous experience in technical leadership roles, including mentoring, code reviews, and establishing development standards.
  • Solid understanding of frontend performance optimization techniques and responsive design principles.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Micro Frontends architecture is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the frontend engineering team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and enforce coding standards, best practices, and development processes to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Lead code reviews, offering constructive feedback to improve code quality, maintainability, and performance.
  • Design, develop, and enhance a high-performance eCommerce platform that supports millions of users globally.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Delivery Teams, and other Engineering stakeholders to influence and define technical architecture and strategies.
  • Drive innovation by exploring new technologies, tools, and methodologies to optimize development workflows and product performance.
  • Participate in an on-call rota during peak trading periods to ensure platform stability and rapid issue resolution.
  • Contribute to documentation, technical specifications, and project planning activities to support team alignment and project success.

Benefits

Joining this organization offers a competitive package including a salary between £60,000 and £73,000, complemented by a 10-12% bonus. The role provides flexible working arrangements with three days in the office (Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday), promoting a healthy work-life balance. The company values professional development and offers opportunities for growth within a forward-thinking environment. Relocation support is available for the right candidate, making this an attractive opportunity for those looking to advance their career in a global organization. Additional benefits may include pension schemes, healthcare plans, and access to ongoing training and development programs designed to enhance your technical skills and leadership capabilities.
