Role Overview

We are looking for a motivated Junior–Mid Mobile App Developer to join our engineering team and take hands-on ownership of features across the full BizAlign mobile ecosystem as well as supporting businesses within our network (Logistics, Fleet, Retail & Ecommerce) & beyond. You will work across the entire development lifecycle from translating UX research into polished, accessible interfaces, through to optimizing the backend APIs and databases that power our apps.

You will be expected to own your work end-to-end: raising the quality bar, writing maintainable code, and proactively flagging issues before they become problems. This is not a siloed role, you will collaborate closely with product, design, and backend engineers.

Mobile Development

• Build, maintain, and enhance features across the BizAlign iOS and Android apps using React Native and Expo.
• Write clean, type-safe code in JavaScript/TypeScript, following agreed patterns and conventions.
• Implement and manage application state using Zustand, keeping architecture predictable and performant.
• Integrate with REST APIs and handle complex data-flow scenarios including offline-first behaviour, pagination, and caching.
• Understand and apply core mobile fundamentals: app lifecycles, push notifications, deep linking, biometric auth, and platform-specific behaviours (iOS vs Android).
  
  

UI / UX Implementation

• Translate UX research, wireframes, and design specs into pixel-perfect, accessible mobile interfaces.
• Champion usability, surface problems identified in user testing and propose pragmatic solutions.
• Ensure UI components meet accessibility standards (WCAG) and perform well on a range of device sizes and OS versions.
• Collaborate with the design team on component libraries and design tokens, maintaining consistency across the BizAlign product suite.
  
  

Backend API & Database

• Develop and optimise RESTful API endpoints using Node.js and Express to support mobile client requirements.
• Identify and resolve API performance bottlenecks, query analysis, response caching, payload optimisation, and pagination strategies.
• Write efficient queries and data models for both PostgreSQL (relational data) and MongoDB (document data), understanding the trade-offs of each.
• Implement and improve database indexing strategies, and participate in schema review discussions.
• Ensure APIs are well-documented, versioned, and backward compatible where appropriate.
  
  

DevOps & Infrastructure

• Containerise services using Docker and contribute to deployment pipelines via GitHub Actions.
• Work with AWS services (EC2, ECS, S3) to support deployments, environment configuration, and asset management.
• Participate in code reviews and CI/CD pipeline improvements, ensuring quality gates are met before merge.
  
  

AI-Assisted Development

• Use AI coding tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude) as a genuine productivity multiplier, not a replacement for engineering judgement.
• Understand what you ship: all AI-generated code must be read, understood, tested, and owned by you before it reaches a PR.
• Apply AI assistance strategically, scaffolding, boilerplate, test generation, refactoring, and documentation, while writing critical business logic and architecture decisions yourself.
• Stay current with the evolving AI tooling landscape and share useful workflows with the team.
• Recognise the limits of AI-generated output: catch hallucinated APIs, logic errors, security issues, and performance anti-patterns.
  
  

Quality & Ownership

• Write unit and integration tests using Jest, maintaining meaningful test coverage.
• Take full accountability for your deliverables, from scoping and implementation through to post-release monitoring.
• Proactively identify technical debt and raise it clearly, proposing incremental improvements.
• Maintain thorough documentation of your work, code comments, README updates, and internal wikis.

Required Skills & Experience

• Demonstrable experience building mobile applications with React Native (with or without Expo).
• Comfortable using AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, etc.) as a productivity aid, with the discipline to review, understand, and take full ownership of every line of output.
• Solid proficiency in JavaScript, with working knowledge of TypeScript.
• Familiarity with REST API consumption and integration patterns in a mobile context.
• Understanding of state management concepts; experience with Zustand, Redux, or similar.
• Basic experience with Node.js and backend API development.
• Comfortable working with relational databases (PostgreSQL or similar) and writing raw SQL queries.
• Experience using Git and working within a branching/PR-based workflow.
• A genuine interest in UI/UX, you appreciate good design and care about the end user experience.
• Ability to own a feature end-to-end and communicate progress clearly.
  
  

Nice to Have

• Experience with MongoDB or other document databases.
• Knowledge of Docker and containerised development environments.
• Exposure to AWS services in a professional setting.
• Experience writing tests with Jest or equivalent frameworks.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and GitHub Actions.
• Understanding of telematics, fleet management, HR, or workforce management domains.
• Previous experience working in a startup or product-led environment.
