About The Role

The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer at GovCIO plays a critical role in safeguarding our IT infrastructure by integrating and maintaining robust cybersecurity controls across diverse environments. This fully remote position requires a strategic thinker with hands-on experience in IT operations, engineering, and cybersecurity. The engineer will oversee the day-to-day management of Linux and Windows servers, ensuring system integrity through patching, upgrades, and vulnerability scanning. They will monitor network performance using advanced tools such as SolarWinds, NetScout, Cisco Prime, and Splunk, promptly escalating issues to maintain system availability. Additionally, the role involves reviewing and implementing security configurations on firewalls and other security devices, creating change requests for network modifications, and ensuring seamless interoperability of security tools across cloud and on-premises environments. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed cybersecurity controls into IT projects, ensuring compliance with frameworks like NIST 800-53 rev 5 and the Cybersecurity Framework. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 12+ years of professional experience in IT operations, cybersecurity, or related fields
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience in cybersecurity roles, with at least 2 years in cybersecurity engineering
  • At least 5 years of operational experience with Linux servers, Windows servers, and security devices such as IDS/IPS, firewalls, proxy servers, and web application firewalls
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience integrating IT projects with commercial cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • At least 2 years’ experience utilizing automation platforms for system orchestration
  • Proficiency in Python coding, with at least 1 year of demonstrated work experience
  • In-depth understanding of the Risk Management Framework, NIST 800-53 rev 5, and Cybersecurity Frameworks
  • Strong knowledge of advanced networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity architectures
  • Ability to attain and maintain an AOUSC Public Trust clearance
