UI/UX Designer (Pro Bono Volunteer)

The YouthUp Global Ecosystem is seeking a creative and impact-driven UI/UX Designer to join our growing technology and innovation team on a pro bono volunteer basis.

UI/UX Designer (Volunteer – Pro Bono)

Location: Remote (Open to applicants across Africa and beyond)

Engagement Type: Pro Bono Volunteer

As a UI/UX Designer, you will help shape the user experience of digital platforms being developed within the YouthUp Global Ecosystem. You will work closely with product managers, developers, and other stakeholders to create intuitive, accessible, and visually engaging user experiences that align with our mission and organizational goals.

Your designs will directly contribute to products that empower young people, organizations, and communities across Africa.

• Design user-centered digital experiences for web and mobile applications.
• Conduct user research where necessary to understand user needs.
• Develop user flows, journey maps, wireframes, and interactive prototypes.
• Create clean and modern user interface designs aligned with product objectives.
• Collaborate with developers to ensure accurate implementation of designs.

• Maintain and contribute to a consistent design system.
• Improve usability through testing, feedback, and iterative design.
• Ensure accessibility and responsive design best practices are incorporated.
• Participate in product brainstorming and design review sessions.

Applicants should possess:

• Experience designing web and/or mobile applications.
• Proficiency in Figma (required).
• Good understanding of UI/UX principles, usability, and user-centered design.
• Ability to create wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and design specifications.
• Understanding of responsive and mobile-first design.
• Strong attention to detail and visual design skills.
• Good communication and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment.
• A portfolio demonstrating previous UI/UX design work.

Preferred (Not Mandatory)

• Experience working with startups, nonprofits, or social impact organizations.
• Basic understanding of front-end technologies (HTML/CSS) is an advantage.
• Experience designing dashboards, SaaS platforms, or educational technology products.
• Familiarity with design systems and component libraries.
