Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Lead Data Engineer to establish and lead our enterprise data management capabilities while providing hands-on leadership for critical business transformation initiatives. This role will initially focus on supporting a strategic Annuity Platform Implementation, performing detailed data analysis and defining the target-state data integration architecture. Over time, the role will evolve into a broader leadership position responsible for building and eventually maturing the organization's Data Governance program, data architecture standards, and data management team.
This is a unique opportunity for a hands-on leader who can balance strategic vision with execution, helping a growing organization establish a strong data foundation that supports business growth, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and data-driven decision-making.
Data Architecture Leadership
- Define and maintain enterprise data architecture strategy, principles, standards, and best practices.
- Develop current-state and target-state data architecture roadmaps.
- Design scalable and sustainable data models, integration patterns, and data management frameworks.
- Establish architecture governance processes and review boards.
- Collaborate with business and technology leaders to align data architecture with organizational objectives.
Annuity Platform Implementation experience is a plus
- Lead data architecture activities for the annuity platform implementation program.
- Analyze source and target system data models, interfaces, and business processes.
- Define end-to-end data integration architecture across annuity platforms and enterprise applications.
- Develop data mapping, transformation, migration, and reconciliation strategies.
- Identify data quality issues, integration risks, and remediation plans.
- Support implementation teams throughout design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Ensure data architecture decisions support long-term enterprise data objectives.

Data Governance Program Leadership (Optional / Nice to Have)
- Establish and lead the organization's Data Governance program.
- Define data governance policies, standards, roles, and operating models.
- Implement data ownership, stewardship, and accountability frameworks.
- Develop data quality, metadata management, lineage, and master data management practices.
- Create governance processes for critical business data domains.
- Partner with business stakeholders to improve data quality and consistency.
- Develop metrics and reporting to measure governance effectiveness.
Data Analysis & Data Management
- Perform complex data analysis to support business and technology initiatives.
- Lead data profiling, data discovery, and impact analysis efforts.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or related field.
- 15+ years of experience in data architecture, data management, or enterprise information management.
- Proven experience designing enterprise-scale data integration architectures.
- Demonstrated success establishing or leading Data Governance programs.
- Strong experience in data modeling, data analysis, and data architecture frameworks.
- Experience leading complex data migration and system implementation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of data quality, metadata management, master data management, and data lineage.
- Experience with relational databases, cloud platforms, data warehouses, and integration technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS tools and technologies: S3, Redshift, Athena, Glue
- Strong hands-on experience with dbt, Trino
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, across Business and Technology.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and influencing executive stakeholders (business & technology)
- Experience in Insurance, Annuities, Wealth Management, or Financial Services industries.
- Experience supporting policy administration or annuity platform implementations.
