The Role

We are partnering with a world-leading hydropower technology and engineering group seeking an Automation & SCADA Engineer to oversee the control systems design, modernization, and commissioning for major hydroelectric and pumped-storage installations across central Europe and global export markets.
In this role, you will configure, program, and test the automation, PLC, SCADA, and balance-of-plant control frameworks that ensure safe, highly efficient, and autonomous hydroelectric generation.

Key Responsibilities
- System Architecture & Design: Develop and engineer complex PLC, HMI, and SCADA control architectures specifically tailored for hydroelectric plants, including turbine governors, hydraulic actuators, and high-voltage substation integration.
- Programming & Commissioning: Implement control logic (IEC 61131-3 standards), execute software simulations, and lead on-site Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) globally.
- Grid Integration & Security: Ensure compliance with strict European grid codes (e.g., VDE guidelines) and implement robust cybersecurity measures for Operational Technology (OT) networks.
- Interdisciplinary Engineering: Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and fluid dynamics teams to integrate digital automation systems into both greenfield projects and legacy plant retrofits.
What We Are Looking For
- Experience: 5+ years of professional background in industrial automation, control engineering, or power plant technology (direct hydroelectric or heavy rotating equipment experience highly preferred).
- Technical Mastery: Advanced proficiency with major industrial automation platforms widely deployed in European heavy industry (e.g., Siemens SIMATIC S7/PCS7, Schneider Electric, or ABB).
- Domain Knowledge: Strong understanding of hydro dynamics, such as turbine regulation, governor control, water hammer mitigation, and pumped-storage operational logic.
- Qualifications: Bachelorโs or Masterโs degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or equivalent, with professional proficiency in English (German language skills are a strong advantage).
