Network and JVM Performance Engineer

As the network and JVM performance expert on the engineering and trading team, you will reduce the latency of message passing between trading strategies and exchanges and improve Clojure/JVM performance.

Every member of the engineering and trading team works at all levels of the trading stack, but brings a particular skill set to help the team in some core area. Everyone has the opportunity to work on a variety of improvements to the trading platform and supporting infrastructure — including the implementation of order execution and trading logic — and see their efforts directly impact trading. Bonuses are uncapped and in proportion to the firm’s trading performance.

Since 2020, Sixtant has been a fully remote company and now has team members across the Americas and Europe.

What you will work on

Crypto Markets Are Dynamic, And We Act Quickly To Take Advantage Of New Opportunities. It Is Often Not Possible To Know In Advance What That Will Entail, But You Will Likely Find Yourself Working On Some Of The Following Projects

• Investigating order placement speeds on different trading servers and tuning server configuration (linux) for better network performance.
• Measuring and improving application layer (JVM) networking latency.
• Tooling to assess 1) the relative speeds of different data feeds and 2) exchange API behavior as relates to latency.

• Performance testing and monitoring for the Clojure trading platform running on the JVM.
  
  

This position involves spending a significant portion amount of time both writing code and interacting with market structure and trade execution. You should be equally comfortable taking ownership of long-term projects as quickly shipping one-off solutions, and expect to do both.

Requirements

• Deep understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, and WebSockets.
• Familiarity with FIX / trading is a plus.
• Deep understanding of the JVM.
• Familiarity with Clojure is a plus.

We know that the JVM and networking protocols are largely distinct domains (though we’ve found there is a certain kind of person who likes making things go fast, and that person might have experience with both). Strong experience with one and intermediate experience with the other is also OK.
