Senior System & Storage Administrator (6-Month Contract)

Location: Remote (Canada โ€“ PST Time Zone)

Project Description:

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior System & Storage Administrator to provide operational and project support within a hybrid infrastructure environment spanning both on-premises and cloud technologies. This hands-on technical role will focus on server administration, storage, backup, virtualization, and cloud infrastructure while ensuring the organization's computing environment remains secure, reliable, and highly available.


The successful consultant will work closely with infrastructure teams, project stakeholders, vendors, and end users to maintain enterprise systems, support ongoing initiatives, troubleshoot complex technical issues, and contribute to the planning and implementation of future infrastructure solutions.


Experience and Role Accountabilities

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience administering enterprise computer systems in complex infrastructure environments.
  • Build, maintain, secure, and support enterprise server infrastructure, operating systems, storage, backup, virtualization, and cloud platforms.
  • Monitor system health and performance, proactively identifying issues and implementing improvements to maintain service availability and performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure incidents while working collaboratively with cross-functional support teams and end users.
  • Design, implement, and maintain server, storage, and backup solutions across hybrid (on-premises and cloud) environments.
  • Develop and maintain technical standards, operational procedures, and system documentation.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and replace infrastructure hardware and software components as required.
  • Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and ongoing system administration activities to ensure business continuity.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to infrastructure roadmaps, architecture planning, and long-term technology strategies.
  • Provide technical expertise for infrastructure projects, including planning, implementation, procurement, and solution design.
  • Act as the technical lead on infrastructure initiatives, coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and third-party service providers to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and recommend infrastructure solutions that align with organizational objectives.
  • Maintain system security, availability, and operational excellence through proactive administration and continuous improvement initiatives


Education and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience supporting enterprise server infrastructure and systems administration.
  • Minimum three (3) years of hands-on experience administering NetApp storage and backup environments, including installation, maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
  • Strong experience installing, securing, monitoring, and maintaining enterprise computing systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues within enterprise environments.
  • Strong virtualization experience with technologies such as VMware and/or Hyper-V.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working collaboratively with cross-functional operational teams, project teams, contractors, and external vendors.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while working independently in a remote environment.


Assets

  • Microsoft Azure and/or Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) certifications.
  • NetApp certification.
  • Linux server administration experience.
  • Experience with Azure Cloud Storage.
  • Experience administering Cohesity backup solutions.
  • Experience with NetBackup.
  • Experience supporting hybrid cloud infrastructure environments.


Contract Details

  • Contract Length: 6-month contract with a strong possibility of extension.
  • Location: Fully Remote (Canada).
  • Time Zone: Must be available to work standard Pacific Time (PST) business hours.
  • Start Date: August 2026
