Job Description

everyday dev is a product design and engineering consultancy helping teams build electronic products from concept to production. We work across consumer, industrial, medical, and mobility markets, focused more on solving the engineering problem in front of us than on any single industry. Our work spans the full product development lifecycle: requirements gathering and discovery, hardware design, firmware and embedded software development, regulatory compliance, and manufacturing support. We partner with early-stage startups and established teams alike, plugging in wherever the expertise is needed. We're a small, focused team. The work is hands-on, the communication is direct, and the goal is always the same: production-ready products that perform outside the lab, not just on paper.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Firmware design and development for microcontroller-based products (bare-metal and RTOS)
  • Write and review device drivers, board support packages, and hardware abstraction layers
  • Bring up new hardware: board bring-up, peripheral configuration, and debugging alongside EE
  • Assist in creating technical specifications from high-level customer requirements
  • Build and debug from individual boards to production-intent products
  • Design and implement debugging, verification, and validation test procedures for the firmware you develop

Education and Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in embedded software or firmware development
  • Bachelor's Degree in EE/CE/CS/EET/CET preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Consumer, automotive, industrial, or medical product development experience a plus

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in embedded C and/or C++
  • Experience developing firmware for common MCU families (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, ESP32, STM32, PIC, or similar)
  • Familiarity with hardware-level communications such as USB, CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.
  • Comfortable reading schematics and datasheets and working directly with hardware
  • Experience debugging with tools such as Segger (J-Link/Ozone), logic analyzers, and oscilloscopes
  • Experience with software tools such as Git
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Desired Skills

  • 4+ years of embedded/firmware product development experience
  • RTOS experience (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, or similar)
  • Experience with wireless protocols and stacks such as Bluetooth/BLE, Zigbee, LoRa, LTE, WiFi, etc.
  • Experience with smart home / IoT connectivity standards such as Thread, Matter, and Apple HomeKit
  • Bootloader and OTA/firmware-update development
  • Low-power design and power optimization for battery-operated products
  • Experience with motor control or motion applications
  • Familiarity with regulatory certification and testing (FCC, CE, UL)
  • Exposure to hardware design or PCB layout (Altium Designer)
  • Basic hand soldering skills for rework and debug (0402, QFN)
  • Experience taking a product through manufacturing and compliance testing

Location & Work Authorization
