Observability Solutions Engineer — Design & Implementation (Remote LATAM, Contractor) | Telekomplex

Telekomplex is a U.S.-based IT services company that provides certified technical engineers to MSPs, MSSPs, VARs and technology integrators across the United States. We are growing our observability practice and looking for an engineer who doesn't just operate monitoring platforms — but designs, sizes and builds them from zero.

Most observability engineers have used the tools. Far fewer have stood in front of a blank environment and answered: what should we instrument, how should the platform be architected, what will it cost at scale, and how do we roll it out without disrupting production? That is this role. You will lead greenfield observability implementations for enterprise clients — from discovery and architecture through sizing, licensing estimation, deployment automation and handover to operations teams.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

•   Lead discovery workshops with client stakeholders to map applications, infrastructure, data flows and reliability goals into an observability strategy.

•   Design end-to-end observability architectures — instrumentation standards, agent and collector topology, data ingestion pipelines, retention and access models — for Dynatrace, Datadog and open-source stacks (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).

•   Dimension and size solutions from zero: capacity planning, consumption and licensing estimation (e.g., Dynatrace DPS/DDU models, Datadog ingestion-based pricing), host-unit and data-volume forecasting, and cost-optimization guardrails.

•   Build the solution: automated agent rollout (Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD), monitoring-as-code configuration, dashboards, SLIs/SLOs, alerting profiles and runbooks — from empty tenant to production-ready platform.

•   Design and implement OpenTelemetry instrumentation pipelines for applications and services that lack native agent support.

•   Define migration paths from legacy or fragmented monitoring estates into consolidated observability platforms.

•   Produce architecture documents, sizing worksheets and handover packages; train client operations teams on the platform you built.

•   Support technical pre-sales: proofs of concept, demo environments and effort estimation for new engagements.

MUST-HAVE

•   4+ years in observability / monitoring engineering, including at least 2 end-to-end implementations you designed and built from zero (not inherited).

•   Deep expertise in at least one major platform — Dynatrace or Datadog — including architecture, sizing and licensing/consumption models; working knowledge of the other.

•   Hands-on experience with the open-source observability stack: Grafana, Prometheus/Alertmanager, and OpenTelemetry (collectors, SDKs, pipelines).

•   Infrastructure-as-code and automation for platform rollout: Terraform and/or Ansible, plus CI/CD pipelines (GitLab, Azure DevOps or similar).

•   Solid grasp of SRE fundamentals: SLI/SLO design, error budgets, alerting strategy and noise reduction.

•   Cloud platform experience (Azure and/or AWS) including networking and IAM basics relevant to agent and data-flow design.

•   Ability to lead client-facing workshops and defend architecture decisions with technical and cost arguments.

•   Advanced professional English (C1+) — mandatory (see below).

NICE TO HAVE

•   Dynatrace certifications (Associate / Professional) or Datadog certifications.

•   Experience estimating and defending observability TCO in front of procurement or finance stakeholders.

•   Kubernetes observability design (Prometheus Operator, OpenTelemetry Operator, service meshes).

•   Log-pipeline engineering (Fluent Bit, Vector, Logstash) and cost-aware log-routing design.

•   Experience in regulated industries (banking, healthcare, retail at scale).
