Job Description

Embedded Software Application Engineer

Location: Onsite Preferred (Hybrid Considered) Relocation: Available Industry: Advanced Aerospace & Mission‑Critical Systems

Join a Team Building Real‑World, High‑Reliability Aerospace Systems

If you’re the kind of engineer who thrives when the stakes are high and the hardware is real, this role will feel like home. Our client—a leading developer of high‑reliability aerospace technologies—is building mission‑critical airborne and ground systems that operate in extreme environments. These platforms demand embedded software that is robust, predictable, and engineered with discipline.

As an Embedded Software Application Engineer, you’ll design and implement software that interfaces directly with flight hardware, drives real‑time telemetry and control, and supports mission operations. You’ll work across the embedded stack, collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, and help shape systems that must perform flawlessly in the field.

This is an opportunity to build software that actually flies—not just runs in a simulation.

What You’ll Do

  • Embedded Application Development — Build near‑real‑time embedded applications for airborne and ground systems.
  • Develop and maintain drivers, hardware interfaces, and control logic for sensors and onboard subsystems.
  • Contribute to system architecture, embedded feature design, and technical decision‑making.
  • Write efficient, reliable, maintainable code for resource‑constrained environments.
  • Debug issues that cross hardware/software boundaries and require deep system understanding.
  • Participate in integration, testing, and validation of embedded systems.
  • Identify and resolve performance, reliability, and maintainability challenges.
  • Participate in code reviews, offering thoughtful, constructive technical feedback.

Who You Are

You’re an embedded engineer who loves working close to the hardware and delivering real‑world functionality—not just theoretical designs. You understand the tradeoffs between performance, reliability, and hardware constraints, and you enjoy solving problems that span multiple engineering disciplines.

You’re pragmatic, detail‑oriented, and committed to building systems that work reliably in production environments. You can write software independently but appreciate modern tools that enhance your workflow.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Typically 8+ years of professional embedded software development experience.

Preferred Experience

  • Rust, C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Linux OS
  • Hardware interfaces: SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet
  • Sensors, radios, or communication systems
  • Mission‑critical or high‑reliability system development

How This Team Works

  • Not a startup—but operates with ownership, urgency, and engineering rigor.
  • Building serious aerospace systems with high expectations for technical excellence.
  • Strong preference for onsite collaboration; hybrid may be considered.
  • Fully remote candidates will not be prioritized.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and reach.
  • Reasonable accommodations available.
  • Work primarily in an office environment with occasional exposure to labs and production areas (noise, fumes, moving machinery, varying temperatures).
