About the Role: A leading-edge company in green technology is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to design and optimize its hydrogen production reactor and system. This role involves taking technical ownership of the mechanical design process for key production sub-systems, particularly focusing on integrating these elements into a compact and efficient containerized system. The technology aims to transform hydrogen production with a nearly zero CO2 emission process, contributing significantly to the low carbon economy. Responsibilities: Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and test concepts for the reactor and related sub-systems. Lead the integration of the reactor and sub-systems into modular production systems. Size equipment and create detailed specifications for procurement. Develop general assembly drawings and integrate supplier drawings. Conduct mechanical stress calculations to ensure system integrity. Coordinate with vendors to ensure component compliance. Manage technical staff for mechanical fitting of components and generate work instructions. Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards for designs and built systems. Support operations by assisting with equipment run-in, fault finding, and performance evaluation. Qualifications, Experience, and Skills: Essential: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or 5 years of related experience. At least 5 years of experience in an engineering design environment. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting developing first-of-its-kind technology. Proficiency in design software such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD 3D. Desirable: Experience in a start-up environment. Familiarity with CE/UKCA certification processes. Experience working with hydrogen or flammable gases in an ATEX/Ex setting. Knowledge of conveyance systems for solid particles in high-temperature ATEX/Ex environments. Understanding of metallurgy and material selection for hydrogen applications. Experience with microwave-driven chemical processes. Preferred Skills: Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on innovative technology development. Highly organized and methodical approach to work and file management. Attention to detail and practical implementation. Competency in writing clear and concise technical documents. Leadership experience (preferred but not essential).
