The Role

Dewis Choice

Dewis Choice have been awarded funding from the Moondance Foundation to support older people who experience domestic abuse, and who are living in the Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire areas.

Dewis Choice are recruiting two Dewis Choice Wellbeing Practitioners, one will be located in Pembrokeshire and the other in Carmarthenshire. The Practitioners will provide long-term intensive support to older victim-survivors through community outreach with older victims in their own homes, or preferred community location. The posts will involve a blend of remote co-located desk based and community-based work in the Carmarthenshire or Pembrokeshire region.

The Dewis Choice Initiative aims to use co-production to empower clients, so they are involved in all aspects of the service and the research process.

Overview Of The Role

The Choice Well-being Practitioner is a dual role. First, to provide direct support to older people experiencing domestic abuse, and their family members where safe to do so. As part of a practice team the practitioner will provide a client-centred, integrated, specialist support, involving risk assessment, safety planning and recovery, and working with external partners to ensure access to rights and entitlements for the older person.

The second half of the role will involve engagement activities, including: supporting the work of the Area Coordinator and Well-being Lead in introducing the Initiative and forming multi-agency partnerships with key stakeholders and referrers in the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire regions; and carrying out knowledge exchange activities for the Initiative both face-to-face and via online platforms to organisations and stakeholder groups.

The roles will involve supporting the overall aims of the Dewis Choice Initiative to promote impact and measure change.

In-house training will be provided to the successful candidates to respond to complex cases where the client has care and support needs, and/or cases where dementia and domestic abuse co-exist. The candidates will also receive training and mentoring in the legal literacy of working with cases that fall within the remit of the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

The role is for the initial period of 12 months with the potential for extension subject to securing further funding.

Where a visa sponsorship is likely, this section must briefly but clearly state the main duties and responsibilities of the role.

To make an informal enquiry, please contact Elize Freeman at elf21@aber.ac.uk

Successful applicants will be subject to a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) check.

Appointments are normally made within 4 - 8 weeks of the closing date.
