Job Description
Role Overview
We are looking for a DevOps and platform engineer to ensure platform availability and operational coverage during US business hours. You will join a small infrastructure team that includes a DevOps engineer based in the EU. Together, you will provide near-continuous coverage of our AWS-hosted platform.
Our application is a Ruby on Rails monolith running on ECS Fargate, backed by Aurora MySQL, ElastiCache Redis, and managed entirely through Terraform across a multi-account AWS Organization. Your primary focus is on keeping the platform healthy, secure, and available during the US workday. Beyond day-to-day operations, there is a significant opportunity to drive platform improvements and modernization efforts.
You'd own US-hours coverage: first responder for alerts and incidents, deployments, Terraform changes, and hands-on support for a small, senior-heavy dev team that ships daily. Your morning starts with a handoff from the EU engineer; your day runs through 6 PM Pacific. No nights, no weekends, no on-call rotation.
Once you've built context, there's a real modernization backlog with your name on it: MySQL→PostgreSQL migration, CI/CD consolidation, Elastic-based observability, DR testing, cost optimization.
We work AI-natively — assistants and agents are part of daily engineering here, and we expect the same fluency from you.

Work Environment
You will join a small, senior-heavy engineering team distributed across the US and Europe. Most engineers bring 15+ years of experience. The team ships daily, works asynchronously, and values clear ownership over meetings. Infrastructure is currently managed by a single DevOps engineer in the EU — you will own US-hours coverage and, just as importantly, build shared ownership of the platform so it is no longer dependent on any one person. A core goal of this role is redundancy: through a daily handoff with the EU engineer, jointly maintained run books, and shared on-call knowledge, the two of you will provide near-continuous, resilient coverage as the product scales.
