Senior/Staff AI Engineer - AI Agent Platform

Location: Midtown South (Bryant Park), New York City

Compensation: $180,000 – $270,000 Base Salary + 0.1% – 0.5% Equity

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior / Staff AI Engineer to help build the AI agent platform powering the future of corporate finance automation. This is a high-impact opportunity to work directly with company leadership and customers to develop production-grade AI systems that automate complex accounting and finance workflows.

You will be responsible for designing and scaling the foundational infrastructure, orchestration systems, evaluation frameworks, and agent architectures that enable reliable, audit-ready AI agents. This role combines deep backend and infrastructure engineering expertise with hands-on experience building production AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and deploy production AI agents that automate complex finance workflows such as:
• Revenue recognition
• Reconciliation
• Month-end close
• Financial reporting
• Audit preparation

• Develop core platform infrastructure including:
• Agent orchestration frameworks
• Context management systems
• Evaluation and benchmarking pipelines
• Verification and guardrail layers
• Workflow execution engines
• Build horizontal platform systems used across the engineering organization.
• Own projects end-to-end across:
• LLM pipelines
• Backend services
• Data infrastructure
• Agent runtime systems
• Customer-facing product functionality
• Work directly with CFOs, controllers, and finance teams to understand workflows and translate business requirements into AI-powered solutions.
• Partner closely with product, engineering, and leadership teams to define technical strategy and platform architecture.
• Leverage modern AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, and similar AI-assisted engineering platforms to maximize productivity.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 4–12 years of experience in backend, infrastructure, distributed systems, or platform engineering.
• 2+ years building and shipping production AI agent systems with real-world users.
• Experience at venture-backed startups, ideally Pre-Seed, Seed, Series A, or Series B environments.
• Proven track record building foundational platform, infrastructure, or backend systems that scaled significantly across products, teams, or large data volumes.
• Experience designing and operating:
• Distributed systems
• Data platforms
• Workflow engines
• Orchestration systems
• High-scale backend services

AI & Research Background

• Strong research grounding in:
• AI Agents / Large Language Models (LLMs) / Machine Learning
• Published research at leading peer-reviewed venues such as:
• NeurIPS / ICML / ICLR / ACL / EMNLP
• Similar top-tier conferences
• Research contributions from undergraduate, master's, PhD, or industry settings are all considered.

Education

• Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science.
