The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated Java Software Engineer-Intermediate Level to join a talented team that is modernizing the Umbrella Policy application in USAA's Property & Casualty organization. They will work in Java technologies building in AWS and integrating with Guidewire platform. They will be responsible for the full software development lifecycle, from conception and design through testing and deployment. This role requires a strong background in Java on AWS and a keen understanding of software development, and the ability to implement effective solutions.

. This position is based out of the San Antonio TX office. Relocation assistance
is not available for this position.
Within defined guidelines and framework, provides support to the Enterprise through delivering best in class technology solutions. Engaged in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle which include gathering and analyzing requirements, designing, testing, documenting, and implementing software, responding to outages.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, code, and test technical solutions
- Write code to deliver features, and improvements, on a regular basis
- Investigates and resolve technical problems and production issues through troubleshooting techniques
- Continually improves operations by conducting systems analysis and recommending changes in policies and procedures.
- Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming.
- Follows the software development lifecycle.
- Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
What You Have
- Bachelor’s Degree or 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum requirement can be used in lieu of a degree OR Approved certification from CodeUp, Galvanize, VetFIT (Veterans for IT) or eFIT (Employees for IT).
- 2 years of software development experience specific to a discipline/technology.
- 1 year of experience delivering technology solutions in all phases of the software systems and application development lifecycle.
- Basic Understanding of one or more of the following: Java, Swift, Objective-C, Cobol, JavaScript, Kotlin, C++, HTML, CSS, SQL
- Knowledge and understanding of troubleshooting applications and systems within production issues.
- Ability to quickly understand applicable business acumen to provide appropriate Engineering solutions
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions.
- Basic understanding of cloud technologies and tools.
What Sets You Apart
- 2 years of development experience utilizing Java
- 1+ years’ experience working with REST API development with Spring Boot
- Working experience in Kafka and AWS.
- Understanding on implementation of container-based APIs using various container technologies like Open Shift, Docker, or Kubernetes.
- Familiar with Gradle, Git, GitHub, GitLab, etc. around continuous integration and continuous delivery infrastructure.
- Any AWS certification will be desirable.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $74,210- $141,830
.
Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
