Job Description
About The Company
Colonist is a pioneering digital board game platform dedicated to delivering an engaging and polished gaming experience to a global audience. Our platform hosts a variety of digital board games, including our popular Settlers of Catan alternative, which attracted players who spent over 3,037 years collectively playing 60 million games in the past year alone. We operate as a fully remote, asynchronous team spread across multiple continents, emphasizing outcomes over hours and fostering a culture of trust, ownership, and continuous improvement. Our commitment to innovation and quality has positioned us as a leader in the online digital board game space, with a rapidly growing user base of over 3 million active players annually.
About The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Colonist QA Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality of our digital board games across multiple platforms, including web, mobile, and Discord. Your primary focus will be on shipping fixes, identifying issues early, and driving improvements in the product experience. Unlike traditional QA roles that stop at identifying problems, you will take ownership of fixing quality issues directly within the codebase, leading end-to-end resolution of significant bugs and usability concerns. You will collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and community support channels to monitor bug reports, validate player feedback, and ensure that every update maintains our high standards of quality.
Key responsibilities include running weekly QA sessions on development and staging builds, testing pull requests across various scenarios, and ensuring that all major features are thoroughly validated before release. You will proactively identify gaps in our QA process, propose and implement improvements, and leverage AI tools to enhance testing efficiency. Your role is vital in maintaining a seamless experience for millions of players worldwide, ensuring that our platform remains reliable, engaging, and bug-free.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with full-cycle QA processes, including test planning, execution, and reporting
- Strong attention to detail and excellent judgment in distinguishing bugs from product issues
- Comfortable working directly within codebases and making minor fixes via pull requests
- Experience across multiple platforms: web, mobile, Discord, and related tools such as GitHub, Linear, and BrowserStack
- Exceptional written communication skills, with the ability to structure bug reports and provide clear feedback asynchronously
- Familiarity with AI tools to enhance testing workflows
- Self-motivated and proactive, capable of identifying problems and implementing solutions independently
- Ability to respond quickly to production issues, treating critical bugs with urgency
