About The Role

We are seeking a talented Junior Backend Software Developer to join our team supporting a high-visibility federal modernization program. This role offers the flexibility of 100% remote work and provides an opportunity to contribute to transformative projects that modernize legacy platforms, implement cutting-edge cloud technologies, and deliver solutions with significant societal impact. The successful candidate will work closely with a collaborative team to support large-scale, mission-critical government IT systems, solving complex technical challenges and delivering reliable, scalable software solutions. A minimum Secret Security Clearance is required, and the role emphasizes development in cloud-native environments, microservices architecture, and enterprise system operations. This position is ideal for individuals eager to grow their skills in a dynamic, mission-driven setting while making a tangible difference at a national level.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience or Associate’s Degree with at least 5 years of experience
  • Active Tier 3 Secret Security Clearance (or higher)
  • Strong proficiency in Java and Object-Oriented Programming
  • Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, containerization, and automated deployment tools
  • Proficiency in designing, developing, and operating solutions within AWS or other cloud platforms
  • Experience with event-driven architectures, including Apache Kafka, Pub/Sub patterns, streaming, or event sourcing
  • Experience working within GitOps practices using tools like GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, or ArgoCD
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and participation in Scrum or SAFe ceremonies
  • Knowledge of Atlassian tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket

Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and maintain computer applications and specialized utility programs
  • Create microservices within a cloud-native environment, primarily on AWS GovCloud
  • Operate and troubleshoot enterprise-scale production systems to ensure high availability and performance
  • Analyze user needs and develop robust software solutions aligned with organizational and mission objectives
  • Design and develop database schemas, working independently or collaboratively within a team
  • Apply principles of computer science, engineering, and distributed system design to develop scalable solutions
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring junior developers to promote engineering excellence
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Architecture to deliver integrated solutions
  • Support migration of legacy systems from mainframes to cloud-based environments, particularly in AWS
  • Implement search and analytical capabilities using Elasticsearch or similar technologies to enhance law enforcement tools
  • Build and deploy new microservices on container platforms such as OpenShift, following cloud-native patterns
  • Support integration with event-driven architectures and high-throughput data processing systems
