Role: Box Systems Administrator II

Location: Reston, VA (100% remote role )

Duration: 7 Months

Must have:

3-5 years of experience administering Box in an enterprise environment.


Duties:

  • Assist in server operations, resolving customer issues for Unix/Linux based environments.
  • We are seeking to hire an experienced Box Administrator & Data Custodian who will act as a key member of the IT and Data Governance teams, responsible for managing and securing enterprise content within Box.
  • This role will support end users, enforce data governance policies, and ensure the integrity, security, and lifecycle management of organizational data.
  • A successful candidate will be capable of working within established policies and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve data management practices, security posture, and user experience.



Role: -

  • Serve as the primary administrator for the Box platform, including user provisioning, access controls, and system configuration.
  • Act as a data custodian by ensuring proper classification, retention, and protection of enterprise data stored in Box.
  • Provide support to employees using Box and serve as an escalation point for complex access, sharing, and collaboration issues.
  • Develop and enforce governance policies related to file sharing, external collaboration, and data lifecycle management.
  • Monitor and audit Box usage to ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with security, legal, and compliance teams on data protection initiatives and incident response.
  • Manage integrations between Box and other enterprise systems (e.g., Microsoft 365, Salesforce, identity providers).
  • Communicate system updates, policy changes, and best practices to business stakeholders and end users.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data organization, storage efficiency, and collaboration workflows.
  • Research and implement new Box features, tools, and automation capabilities to enhance productivity and security.
  • Ensure timely resolution of user issues by documenting impact, assigning priority, and tracking to resolution.
  • Support data migration, cleanup, and archival initiatives across departments

Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience administering Box in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong understanding of data governance principles, including data classification, retention, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management (IAM), including SSO, MFA, and role-based access controls.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security practices such as DLP (Data Loss Prevention), encryption, and audit logging.
  • Strong knowledge of Box features including Shield, Governance, Relay, and Platform APIs with integrations.
  • Ability to analyze and remediate data access risks and permission issues.
  • Strong communication skills to work with both technical teams and business stakeholders.
  • Experience documenting processes, policies, and technical configurations.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to data-related incidents.
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, SOC 2, HIPAA) is a plus.
