Role Description

This is a short term contract (2 months), fully remote role for a SQL Database Administrator. The SQL Database Administrator will be responsible for managing and maintaining SQL Server databases, ensuring the availability, performance, and security of all database environments. Day-to-day tasks include database replication, database design, SSIS package development and maintenance, and advanced troubleshooting. The role also involves monitoring system health and performance to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security. The SQL Database Administrator will work closely with the development team to ensure proper database design, efficient ETL processes, and optimal performance. The ideal candidate will also leverage modern AI tools (such as Claude) to assist with analysis, optimization, and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, monitor, and maintain SQL Server databases in development, test, and production environments.
  • Design, implement, and manage database replication and high-availability configurations.
  • Develop, deploy, and troubleshoot SSIS packages for ETL, data integration, and scheduled processes.
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, failed jobs, and data integrity problems.
  • Collaborate with developers and solution architects on database design, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
  • Use AI tools (including Claude) to analyze query performance, review execution plans, generate and refactor T-SQL scripts, and assist in root-cause analysis and incident resolution.
  • Create and maintain documentation, standards, and runbooks for database operations and support.
  • Ensure data security, access control, and compliance with internal policies and industry best practices.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Database Administration with Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Strong understanding of relational database concepts and physical/logical database design.
  • Hands-on experience with replication, high availability, and disaster recovery features.
  • Practical experience developing and troubleshooting SSIS packages.
  • Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills (indexes, execution plans, query optimization).
  • Experience using AI-based assistants (preferably Claude) for tasks such as SQL analysis, code generation/refactoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a remote environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is a plus
