Sports Direct Malaysia is currently looking for Area Manager (East Malaysia) to join our growing team.
Sports Direct Malaysia currently operates a total of 41 retail stores domestically and manages a proprietary SportsDirect.com e-commerce site for domestic and regional fulfillment. Sports Direct Malaysia offers over 70 of the leading authentic global sports brands, offering the widest variety of choice and value. The company employs over 1000 staff with a view to expanding rapidly across Asia in the coming years.
We have developed a new generation of stores as part of our multi channel elevation strategy, to enhance the customer experience at every step of the journey. Our focus is on presenting an unrivalled range of quality products at excellent value in a modern spacious environment. The stores are uniquely zoned by key sports categories which include; SD Football, SD Running, SD Training (fitness, cross training, gym equipment, weights, boxing, yoga), SD Rackets (badminton, tennis, squash), SD Swimming (pool, beach, water sports), SD Sports (basketball, rugby, extreme games, cycling, skates & indoor games), SD Lifestyle (Men, Women & Kids) & SD Outdoor (Hiking, trekking, camping & fishing).
Operations:
- Conduct manpower planning for the area according to approved headcount, festive/ high seasons, promotional period etc. Liaise with HR for recruitment and other procedures.
- Ensure all team members observe and practice company’s policies and rules & regulation.
- Monitor overall shop operations and ensure consistency in the standard of retail operations within the Area.
- Having daily effective and clear official communication with Head Office and relevant departments to ensure smooth operations needs are met and people related matters are handled.
- Manage and monitor product display arrangement as VM guideline.
- Manage and supervise all shop managers in overall daily operations and customer relationship within the area.
- Monitor and follow up with respective departments on various matters to ensure smooth operations within the area.
- Plan and execute stock take (routine, ad-hoc & annual), follow up with relevant investigations & reporting.
- Weekly Effective Communication with shop managers to ensure information, policies, practices, troubleshoots are well informed and supported.
- To ensure all Operational and Customer Service SOPs are followed within the shop.
Sales:
- Analyzing sales data, shop performance in all aspects and update to Line Manager.
- Monitor and ensure Shop Managers implement/execute sales & promotion plans as per guideline.
- Reviewing and keeping track of sales (set daily target and ensure achievement of sales target).
- Provide feedbacks to Line Manager on sales & promotions campaigns' effectiveness.
- Understand business and customer expectation and motivate the team to deliver an excellent customer experience.
- Understand product features and benefits and train your team to maximize sales opportunity.
- Propose sales / promotion ideas to Line Manager to improve sales achievement.
- Understand the retail industry, business challenges, competitors, and customers, with a strong commercial awareness.

Controls:
- Be organized and consistent with daily structure to ensure store within your area meet compliances, customer service and security standards.
- Drive excellent performance on wage controls through floor-based observations and efficient practices.
- Ensure accurate tills report and cash collection within your area.
- Guide the team to work within timeframes set by the business and set realistic expectations.
- Manage compliance with processing of payroll issues and problem-solve effectively.
- Ensure all store schedules in line with store trading patterns and business expectation.
- Monitor stock take process and result to ensure they are within the passing rates.
- Support shop managers within your area to act on suspicious activities within the premises.
Development
- Be self-driven in own personal development and take on developmental feedback constructively.
- Create an environment that encourages and rewards performance fairly and equitably.
- Identify internal talent, use development opportunities and performance management processes to drive and reward exceptional performance.
- Lead, train, motivate and manage outlet team in delivering best services in all departments.
- Plan for development and create a clear team succession plan to encourage next generation and support business growth.
- Work close with L&D team to ensure effective training delivered to your team within the area.
Leadership & Management
- Develop relationships with your store team and ensure everyone is working to the same goals.
- Develop, coach and motive your team to achieve success, holding them accountable where appropriate.
- Inspire your team and act as a role model.
- Participate in recruitment process to identify potential talents for all Supervisors and above positions.
- Lead and work with the team to achieve monthly sales target of the Area.
- Review and appraise staff performance to identify talents and retain staff.
- Take responsibility of your Area and be accountable for any outcomes.
- Work closely with the Line Manager and contribute to the success of your area as a whole.

- At least a Certificate/Diploma in Retail Management or relevant discipline.
- At least 5 years working experiences as Shop Manager level or 2 years Area Manager level in reputable retail companies at similar size.
- Have passion and knowledge in sports is an advantage.
- Proven leadership and management skills (with minimum 50 pax).
- Good analytic, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Good customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willing to work long hours, weekends, public holidays and shift duty.
- Able to travel as needed.
- Open for relocation.
