About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead DevOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience with AWS, Terraform, Windows Server, and containerization technologies. This role involves supporting and delivering virtual infrastructure for mission-critical health IT solutions within a collaborative Kanban-driven environment. The Lead DevOps Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the deployment, automation, and maintenance of cloud-based systems, ensuring high availability, security, and scalability. The position requires a leader with proven experience managing a team of at least two direct reports, mentoring staff, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. This is a fully remote opportunity, with occasional onsite presence in Woodlawn, MD, for client meetings. The role offers a chance to work on cutting-edge healthcare data integration projects, leveraging serverless architectures, container orchestration, and infrastructure-as-code practices to improve government health systems.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance.
- Reside in and be authorized to perform work within the United States.
- Have lived in the United States for at least 3 of the last 5 years.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Lead-level experience with a minimum of 8+ years in DevOps, cloud engineering, or related roles.
- At least 6 years of experience working with Kanban and agile tools such as Jira, Git, and Confluence.
- 8 or more years of hands-on experience with orchestration tools like Terraform.
- Strong expertise in Windows Server administration (2019/2022), including IIS, Active Directory, Windows services, and Group Policy.
- Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for .NET and Node.js applications deployed on AWS ECS and Lambda.
- Experience with AWS ECS (Fargate and EC2), including service and task definitions, load balancing, auto-scaling, and blue/green deployments.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda functions using Node.js and/or Go, including event-driven architectures and API Gateway integration.
- Experience deploying and managing Apache NiFi data pipelines for healthcare data integration, with version control via NiFi Registry.
- Proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure provisioning across AWS services such as ECS, Lambda, API Gateway, RDS, VPCs, and IAM.
- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell and Bash for automation and operational tasks.
- Demonstrated leadership experience managing a DevOps or platform engineering team, including mentoring and performance management.
- Experience managing work using Kanban methodology, tracking metrics, and fostering continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication skills, with experience representing technical teams to federal stakeholders and managing expectations.
- Willingness to support production issues and high-severity incidents outside regular hours when necessary.
- Desire to learn new technologies rapidly and adapt to evolving project requirements.
- Certifications such as AWS Professional or willingness to obtain within 60 days of employment.
- Knowledge of healthcare systems, Medicare, and Medicaid data is a plus.

- Conduct regular standups aligned with Kanban workflows, recording meetings and ensuring team attendance.
- Report performance issues, project risks, and successes to practice leadership.
- Support and contribute to other teams, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster organizational growth.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of practices, tools, and processes within the organization.
