Job Description:
What is the most important skillset: The Product Owner will be supporting two Agile teams in a Modernization program, where the initial focus will be migrating multiple applications to the AWS Cloud. They'll be working daily with their aligned Agile teams to ensure predictable and sustainable delivery. They'll be partnering with engineering, architecture, and platform stakeholders on database-backed capabilities and ensuring requirements are reflected in epics/stories. They'll be coordinating work within a broader program by managing dependencies, risks and stakeholder communications to keep delivery on track.

Responsibilities
• Support product vision and alignment help translate strategy into clear goals for the squad; communicate the vision within the team and to adjacent teams.
• Track product outcomes help monitor product KPIs with guidance; flag risks early and support the team in meeting near-term targets.
• Backlog ownership: maintain a well-groomed backlog; write clear, actionable user stories and acceptance criteria; prioritize input from stakeholders and EM/SA.
• Planning and expectations: contribute to quarterly/sprint planning; propose sequencing, call out dependencies, and set realistic expectations on scope/dates.
• Day-to-day delivery: work closely with the Agile team to clarify requirements, surface blockers, and keep alignment to the plan; escalate to EM/SM/SA as needed.
• Agile rhythm: partner with the Scrum Master to keep ceremonies effective, ensure backlog readiness, and improve predictability.
• Cross-team coordination: track dependencies/risks/decisions with a simple log; share concise updates and dates-to-know with stakeholders.
• Data-backed capabilities: partner with engineering/architecture/platform to capture non-functional requirements (data quality, performance, availability, lifecycle) in epics/stories; learn and apply platform standards.
• Cloud modernization support (AWS): help define scope, basic sequencing, and change windows; maintain release checklists; learn patterns used by the program (e.g., edge redirects/rollback). Prior migration experience preferred.
• Program alignment: coordinate work to align with program milestones; communicate impacts and timelines clearly to business and tech audiences.
• Feasibility and trade-offs: assist with feasibility and cost-of-delay discussions by gathering inputs and framing options for decision makers.
• Compliance awareness: understand relevant regulatory/compliance constraints; reflect them in backlog and acceptance criteria; seek guidance when unsure.
• Roadmap co-creation: help build and maintain a living product roadmap with stakeholders; update based on learning and delivery reality.
• Discovery and usability: Support lightweight customer-driven discovery; synthesize findings into backlog items and iterative experiments.
• Data-informed decisions: pull and interpret simple delivery/quality metrics (predictability, lead time, defect trends); identify opportunities and test small hypotheses.

External Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields (business, computer science, humanities, etc.)
• Minimum of 2-4 years direct experience with Agile teams
• 5 years in business, technology, or consulting.
• Knowledge of Agile development methodologies and IT project management
• Experience working with data and databases (relational and/or NoSQL) and translating technical constraints into clear product requirements preferred.
• Experience supporting cloud migrations/modernization initiatives and familiarity with AWS concepts/services preferred.
• Experience working in a multi-team program environment, including dependency management and stakeholder alignment across squads/teams.
• Demonstrated ability to support and enable a Scrum team, driving backlog readiness and continuous improvement in collaboration with delivery leads.
• Able to depict complex ideas, issues, and designs to varied audiences; educate SBU/department(s) on business vision and plan and the impact of change.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of insurance industry preferred.
• Ability to use data to prioritize and make tradeoff decisions
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to lead the team to push the solution and progress.
• Strong experimental mindset to drive innovation amongst uncertainty.
