Job Description

WE'RE HIRING

Creative Director

Lead the creative. Shape the brands. Build the team.

A player-coach role for someone who still loves to make the work.

ROLE

Creative Director

Remote (U.S.) · core hours in Central Time (CT)

THE OPPORTUNITY

We're looking for a Creative Director to set the creative bar at UOTB, and then raise it. You'll own the vision behind our work, sharpen the brands we steward, and grow a team of designers, writers, content creators, and videographers who do their best work because of how you lead. You'll partner closely with Account Managers and senior leadership to turn business goals into ideas people remember.

This is a player-coach role. You'll spend your days directing and elevating other people's work, and you'll still get your hands dirty on the projects that need your eye. If you've been looking for a seat where strategy, craft, and leadership all matter, this is it.

WHY UOTB

We're a carefully curated crew of creatives, marketers, and strategic thinkers with a proven specialty in healthcare and MedTech since 1998. We're fully remote, built around the work, where clear, human creative can change how people understand their health. We pair that purpose with the pace and variety of agency life and the trust to do great work from wherever you are.

What makes us different: We're thinkers. We can take orders and deliver, but we’ll be thinking along the way and there’s a good chance we’ll present some possible considerations, not a list of questions, when we identified. We partner, we pivot, we pull from a deep network of trusted specialists, and we produce quality, cost-effective work. It's a flat, low-ego team where some love strategy and some love creative, but we all love doing the work together.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

LEAD THE CREATIVE VISION

•   Set the standard. Build, direct, and review all agency creative, making sure every deliverable answers the brief and meets the bar for quality.

•   Turn objectives into ideas. Translate marketing communications goals into clear, motivating creative strategies, concepts, and campaigns across every channel.

•   Inspire the work. Spot creative opportunities others miss, and push the team to make fresh, surprising work that turns complex ideas into things people feel.

MAKE THE WORK: HANDS-ON

•   Design, don't just direct. Personally concept and create when a project calls for it, such as: layouts, campaign concepts, pitch materials, and production-ready assets.

•   Guide at the right moments. Lead some projects from a blank page; on others, give sharp feedback at key milestones so the team can run.

•   Present with conviction. Present, or coach the team to present, concepts to clients in a way that builds confidence and sells the idea.

GROW THE BUSINESS

•   Win new work. Shape creative strategy, develop concepts, and help present in pitches and new-business opportunities.

•   Be a partner to clients. Help Account Managers and clients solve problems quickly and professionally, and earn trust that deepens the relationship.

•   Know the terrain. Bring creativity to life within brand guidelines and the realities of regulated healthcare/MedTech marketing.

RUN A HEALTHY CREATIVE OPERATION

•   Lead the team. Supervise and develop a cross-functional team of designers, copywriters, content and social specialists, videographers, and freelancers.

•   Keep it moving. Prioritize across a high-volume workload, route work correctly as creative or production, and protect deadlines, budgets, and quality.

•   Plan ahead. Forecast resourcing and collaborate with other department heads to plan, read the results, and find the next opportunity.

WHAT YOU BRING

•   12+ years of relevant experience, including 7+ years of creative direction in an agency or in-house setting.

•   A portfolio that shows the range, from big idea and message platform through production, delivered on time and on budget.

•   Proven strength in concept development and integrated campaigns across every marketing channel.

•   A track record of leading, mentoring, and growing creative teams.

•   Real hands-on craft in the Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and the rest of the kit).

•   A strategic mind and a tactical hand, connecting creative to business goals and can still execute.

•   Calm, resourceful problem-solving when the pressure and the stakes are high.

•   Excellent written and verbal communication, and the presence to present ideas and rally a room.

BONUS POINTS

•   Healthcare or MedTech experience, or time in another regulated industry and the MLR review process.

•   A background in copywriting, design, or production you still draw on.

•   Project-management experience with a focus on creative solutions.

BENEFITS

Benefits: Medical/Dental/Vision health benefit options, 401(k) program, PTO, fully remote, hardware/home-office stipend, professional development budget, parental leave.
