Data Architect Remote | W2 Temporary employee (1 year) | Public Health IT | Targeted Start: July 2026


About the Role

We are looking for a seasoned Data Architect to design and lead the data framework for a large public health IT modernization effort. This is a fully remote contract role and an opportunity to shape how critical health data is structured, accessed, and integrated across a complex enterprise environment. If you have built data architectures for public health organizations and thrive at the intersection of strategy and technical execution, we want to connect with you.


What You Will Do

  • Design the vision and blueprint for the organization's data framework, establishing the foundation for long-term data strategy
  • Design and manage data systems, define policies for data storage and access, and coordinate data sources across the organization
  • Integrate new data technologies into existing IT infrastructures in a way that is scalable and sustainable
  • Lead data modeling and design efforts, including software development support and database administration
  • Build and maintain ETL pipelines that support reliable data movement across systems
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data architecture decisions align with business and public health mission objectives


Required Qualifications

  • 10 or more years of experience in data ecosystems including writing SQL queries, building ETL pipelines, and designing data architecture
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a related engineering discipline
  • Prior experience supporting public health agencies such as CDC, NIH, or state Departments of Health in modernizing legacy data infrastructure
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with data modeling tools and methodologies
  • Hands-on experience building ETL pipelines and working with large, complex datasets
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure, AWS, Snowflake, or Databricks
  • Knowledge of database administration across relational and non-relational systems


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with data governance frameworks and interoperability standards in a public health or government setting



Additional Details

Candidates will have access to protected health information (PHI) and personally identifiable information (PII) in the course of this engagement. All necessary system access and equipment will be provided. No on-site requirement. Core working hours are 7 AM to 6 PM CT. Contract term runs July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
