Role Description


This is a full-time on-site role for a Family Law Senior Associate located in Cape Town. As a Family Law Senior Associate, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage various family law cases from contests high court divorces, child care and contact disputes, relocation applications, Hague Convention Applications. You will also be responsible for conducting legal research, analysing legal information, and drafting legal documents. You will work closely with clients, take on cases independently, and be involved in negotiations and settlements.


Qualifications


  • At least 5 to 10 years of experience in Family Law, Divorce, Mediation, Child Care and Contact Disputes, Hague Convention Applications
  • An established reputation for successfully concluding Family Law cases
  • A passion for Family Law, and the principles of fairness and equity that underpin it
  • An emotionally intelligent, diplomatic, assertive approach; not an aggressive one
  • A preference towards mediation and collaboration over litigation, with the ability to confidently manage and successfully conclude contested high court family disputes, through effective negotiation and the strategic use of the trial procedures
  • Established relationships with family law experts, including child care experts
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and written and verbal communication skills
  • An LLB Degree/LLM and admission to practice as an attorney in the Republic of South Africa
  • Strong legal research, writing, and drafting skills
  • Knowledge and judicious use of AI technologies
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and work effectively under pressure
  • Ability to meet key performance criteria including recording of billable targets
  • Ability to positively influence clients, opponents, and triers of facts
  • Experience appearing in Regional Court, Domestic Violence Court, and assisting counsel in High Court
  • Excellent interpersonal and client service skills
  • Strong work ethic, integrity, and transparency
  • Strong legal knowledge and experience with relevant family laws and regulations
  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
